I wish my local 4-h chicken show was actually worth something. I heard from one of my neighbors that the kids with the parents that have the most money always win. None of the birds are standard, some crossbreds, most hatchery stuff like EE instead of real ameraucanas. They show bovan browns, which are a mix of RIR and RIW. And they always win even though they aren't even breeds. This year I am bringing black sumatras, siclilian buttercups, silver spangled hamburgs, bbr OEs, BBR araucanas, mottled anconas, wheaten & blue wheaten ameraucanas, buff chanteclers, buckeyes, andalusians, splash & black & blue Belgian bearded d'anvers, white silike bantam, mottled houdan, black cochins, white faced black spanish, and a light brahma bantam. I may have left out a couple, but that about sums it up. Every chicken gets a blue ribbon that they fit the standard, even an araucana that was tailed, bearded, and red with white spots(not a standard color). It enrages me. Real chickens shows are fun. Do you do showmanship?

I'm sorry about that.

Your 4-H doesn't really sound like what the whole club is about. Learning. Not winning, especially with crossbreeds that do not fit the standard. Maybe they should switch the club leader or something, they obviously aren't doing it right.

There are other groups like 4-H, you could always join FFA.

Yes. I do showmanship.

Well, there isn't a chicken 4-H club, they just have a county show that is only open to 4-h members. Although I am in a horse 4-H club, the Rocking Rebel Riders, which is really fun becuase we bring our horses every friday and ride and our two club leaders help us train problem horses and it is really fun! They have a runway so we can race each other because the runway has 0 holes in it for the airplanes and my horse Dezi is super fast (clocked at 18 MPH once)! My parents and I were able to arange to have a REAL judge come and do it this year, and we sold local kids our quality show birds for very little so I hope it will be more fun this year!!!!!!! We got the judge to do showmanship with us too!!!!!!!!! It is next month or so so I am looking forward to it. And my fall state fair. I got Huge ribbons at the spring state fair. We have to share the chicken barn with the rabbits, gggrrr, and so They are thinking about putting a limit on how many birds, gggrrr again! Also the chicken barn leaks and it rains at the fair every year and leaks on all the chickens. The rabbit get a HUGE fan and the chickens got zilch!!!!!! GGGRRR, if I ever get the money, I will build a new chicken barn and it will be no rabbits allowed!!!!!!! I used to have a rabbit, but I came home from church one Sunday last summer and he was died of heatstroke.
