Let's just say my pet peeve other than genetics is geographically accurate things. This can still be forested.

It's not raining, and yes it's a forest, but most stuff is dry and dying, and most of the leaves are gone, seeing as its November.

There are deciduous forests, mostly oak that spot Nevada. Look up "Gambel Woodland" and "Great Basin/Southwest Forests and Woodlands"
And of course, Nevada is mostly plateau. But a city in the future could easily provide enough water for itself, especially if they dam a significant river.
