Welcome to the °˖✧ Starstruck Silkie Shack ✧˖°
Featuring stories and pictures of my wonderful silkies! There are still some standard chickens in the flock but the forum will be mostly for the silkies
Introductions:
1. Larry (
) - Hatched September 4th, 2021. He got a cut at the base of his tail at 3 days old that resulted in permanent wry tail. He is also blind in one eye due to a cockerel jabbing it during a pecking order dispute. He loves dragon fruit, it's his absolutely favorite!
2. Soot (
) - Hatched November 1, 2020. My first female silkie and mother of Larry. Her broody pecks of protest when I check on the eggs are like the gentlest of pokes. Her current record for chick rearing is raising one until it was 3 months old
3. Pearl (
) - Hatched March 1, 2022. Beautiful colors, not sure what to call it. Doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of a roost. Loves making secret nests, unfortunately for me.
4. Hazelnut (
) - Hatched March 20, 2023. Daughter of Larry and Pearl's sister. My current friendliest chook! Comes strutting up when called by name
5. Cremepuff (
) - Hatched August 9, 2023. Also known as "MegaToe" due to her perfect 6 toes on each foot. A little stunted due to catching a severe strain of fowl pox as a 1 week old, but she has been packing on the weight lately and seems to be catching up.
6. Tony (
) - Hatched September 5, 2023. Currently my only showgirl silkie. Full of attitude!
Standard hens and bantam mixes:
7. Corn (
) - Hatched August 4, 2020. Polish. Favorite activity is chasing the barn cats and the occasional squirrel. Since she was 2 years old she began hatching chicks annually.
8. Jessie (
) - Hatched July 20, 2020. Midnight Majesty Maran and the top hen in the pecking order. Biggest lady in the flock and hates being picked up.
9. Fettuccine (
) - Hatched August 4, 2020. Buff Orpington and right below Jessie in the pecking order. She'll hatch only once a year. Lost part of her comb at 1 month old to a mean barred rock
10. Nova (
) - Hatched March 16, 2021. Black Star. Plucking a leaf from a chinese tallow tree will cause her to come sprinting at you. Might lose a finger over a banana as well
11. Jailbird (
) - Hatched May 26, 2022. Silkie/Black Star, daughter of Nova and a late white silkie known as Lil' Britches. At a whopping 2.9 pounds she is my meanest broody. Has left a good couple scars on my right arm, she is certainly no pushover
12. Margo (
) - Hatched January 12, 2022. OEGB/Silver Phoenix. Often broody several months at a time. In between sessions she'll lay eggs for maybe 2 weeks. Make no mistake, a wonderful mother. Was said chick that Soot raised for 3 months
