(oh this is going to be hilarious! I love what is happening right now, I admit I had thought for sure this had died out. but I am happy with the turn of events! :lau )

"No but thank you. I have everything packed for when we leave for the houses, but I think I am going to wait until this settles." Nora said gesturing to the arguing and the angry German. She lowered her voice to a whisper that only Janette could hear, "Will You help me keep an eye on that one?" Janette was a cautious woman, she would no doubt be worried about the German as well. At least this way there were two people looking after him if he snapped.
"Of course I will," Janette assured her. "Best keep an eye on him and Nigel, as well as Madeleine. She was in nuclear in America; nothing that would agree with Dierk I'm sure."

Nora nodded happy she wouldn't bear this burden alone. Janette was level headed and she used to be a cop, if anyone would notice something off it would be her. Nora felt much better knowing that she had the woman's help with it all. With that she sat back and just watched it all play out.

Janette moved to Jade's side, curious about the quiet girl. "How long were you and he wandering out there?" She asked, giving a blunt nod towards Dierk.

(I am too. Not sure if it's for the same reasons tho? )

Madeleine set her hand lightly on his shoulder, the only way she knew to comfort him right now. "Désolé," she said quietly. As a young mother, she could resonate with his sorrow somewhat.

Ian swallowed hard. "Germany is pretty much nonexistent," he explained. "The last World War just about destroyed the whole country."

"But...My culture, my home...It's all just gone?" Dierk's voice had calmed down, but now he only sounded sorrowful and rather overwhelmed.
"I would have done so much differently. But Hell, I guess that doesn't really matter anymore."

Dierk sat on the ground finally, leaning his tired back against the stone wall of the cave and taking off his cap so he could fumble with it, as he brewed over the frustration and sadness that now plagued him, now worse than ever.

"I am a bad man. Just as bad as I thought."

Nora cautiously moved over towards him a bit. She handed him some of the canned fruit before tentatively reaching out to put her hand on his shoulder. "Whatever man you were, whatever wrongs you've done, those are in the past. You have been given a second chance, what or who you decide to become is up to you now. You do not have to be a bad man, you have been given a chance to change that. Or at least that is how I would look at things if I were in your shoes." Nora said gently not sure how it would be received but she felt like it had to be said. She couldn't understand the sorrow he must feel having had a family and being so invested in his cause and have it all dashed like that. But she too was out of time and out of place, so she at least understood that part.

Germany still existed, but it was certainly far from the Germany this man knew, so Ian quieted about these facts for now. He bent down to warm his hands by the fire as he thought through what ought to be down now.

Madeleine wrapped her arms around herself for warmth as she listened to Nora. Her words were calming and welcome, something they could all use right now. She was feeling more than bad herself for what she had left behind.

Dierk thanked Nora and took the fruit, though he only held the can and tapped its metal with his middle finger, not feeling very high in spirits at all and therefore not desiring any food, even though it would be smart to eat it.

"I know that isn't true. Maybe here, without civilization and people who've seen my face before, I can live a different life, but the place that for me still exists, and the people that I remember will always be there. That's where I committed every sin, and those who still live in that time in history will always remember each and every one." Dierk explained rather depressingly, shaking his head with a sigh.
"If I was a little boy who stole a candy bar from the local shop I could change, but after you've done what I've done and seen what I've seen there's not one more chance God would give you."

"No, Nora's right," Madeleine said, turning her head slightly to look at him. "We've all been given un second chance here. Let's put our pasts behind us, d'accord? Start over together."
