àm at a loss now she's not eating at all

Penny moved into "The Cottage " today. In the garden but still separate from the other girls( who seem a bit dazed from Tilly not being with them today ) and did perk up a little she actually had a drink! Just a few gulps but she had a drink!
Ever hopeful still.

Penny has been enjoying her long runs in the garden and has been hunting for worms and spiders! She has even enjoyed some small pieces of watermelon today.
I'm wondering what other food I can tempt her with as she is loathe to eat pellets but is refusing anything that sticks to her beak like mash/puree of any other food.i don't want to force feed her as that will just stress her out again but she does seem a lot happier.

Well, chickens usually enjoy boiled rice. So a mixture of boiled rice and finely chopped boiled egg should provide the protein and carbs she needs. Cooked beans and peas are good protein sources too.
Ultimately, she needs to get back on her chicken food. How many chickens does she share a yard with? How many feeders do you have in the yard? Some hens are just dominate and will warn others away from their feeder. It's usually a mad dash at my place with the dominate hens running from one feeder to the other to get their "choice" morsels. Those on the bottom of the pecking order hang back and may not even visit the feeder later. So, when I have several in a pen (especially if some are younger than others), I put out several feeding stations. I would try adding a couple of more feeders if you think that may be the problem. My girls won't touch pellets either. I use layer crumbles and also put out a bowl of mash ( I add a little ACV to the water when I make it) for those that prefer the wet food.
So, maybe start adding crumbles to whatever food you are currently trying on her and slowly take away the rice or egg or whatever you are giving her and add crumbles in it's place would be my suggestion.

I might add that her being away from the flock is going to create a pecking order problem when she gets back. I'm not sure where you have her in relation to the rest of the flock, but it would be a good idea if she is at least next to them so she can remain in sight of the rest of the flock. Otherwise, her introduction back into the flock will put stress on her and she may end up at the bottom of the pecking order, if she wasn't already there.

Oh my this sounds exactly the same as my frizzle after having flubenvet..... I've posted here as she's still much the same and not eating much. Mage loves yoghurt and mealworms at the moment. That's all I can really get down her. She's not enjoying the mash much either. The only thing I can think was did she have gape worm and the flubenvet has left them with painful puncture wounds perhaps in the throat when the worms dislodged but that should be better for mine by now as it's nearly 10days. She was crop fed for 48 hours and poop samples all negative for everything! I'm stumped and not sure what to do with her as she's inside and not 100% so not sure what to do! Hope yours is on the mend soon

We have two feed stations in the large coop and there are 4 girls in there at the moment.Penny is in the smaller coop we call the cottage. She is eating watermelon live mealworms and grape plus she has access to pellets, crumb and corn. When she comes out now she hunts for spiders and worms and munches quite happily but she still doesn't seem to be drinking so today we gave her a drink 5ml of water with acv at a time...she took 10ml before shaking my hand away and wanting to go eat grass! We have fixed a rather large mirror in the run with her to combat boredom and she has a treat ball filled with dried treats that she plays with.
To be honest I don't think she'll be put back in with the others as she has always had egg issues (soft shell/no shell ) and this was the first time they had been given the flubenvet (always used verm x ).
She has been on nystan 1ml daily for nearly a week and her appetite has improved slightly but more so her attitude she seems happier when she is out now so still we play the waiting game but fingers crossed.x

If she tested negative for worms and cocci, I would suspect a bacterial infection or possibly even a fungal infection somewhere. If you have had humid hot weather, fungal could be a possibility. May even be something viral. Hard to diagnose for sure with no obvious symptoms. You might try some natural remedies since what is ailing her is unknown. I have read that oil of oregano is a very potent natural antibiotic, anti fungal, anti parasitic remedy. It is very bitter and would have to be cut with plenty of water. You may have to syringe into her daily to make sure she is getting some. I would start with just a couple of drops per gallon to get her used to the taste. I would try that for a couple of weeks.
You can find other remedies for different conditions here:

There is a link there to the left that discusses fungal remedies.

Well, if she is not eating her layer crumbles, that could be the problem with the soft shell eggs. Without supplemental calcium, the birds will draw all available calcium from their bones. They could go into a sort of paralysis if their calcium levels get depleted. Have you noticed if she will eat oyster shell? Have you tried crushed egg shell? I have a couple of free range hens that go through this. They ignore the oyster shell, don't eat their layer food and eventually the eggs get thin to no shell. They do ok after the winter break, but after a couple of months of laying the thin shells show up. I pop a half a calcium pill into them once a day and by the next day or two, I get a nice egg. If they get thin again, I give them another dose. Idk, I guess that can be a drawback of free ranging hens. They lose interest in their crumbles and may not be finding calcium sources outside the pen.
