A bit similar to the favarolle topic that was posted earlier today, but without the "extra's". Two weeks ago we got a young chicken, approx 17 weeks.
Since last week she has extreme difficulty eating, despite really wanting it. She tries very hard, but for some reason she cannot get food in her beak. We have tried mushy chicken food, apple, sausage, egg - mostly without success. She tries to pick it up, but fails. We now have a bit of success with subflower seeds, chopped into pieces of 2mm.
Sometimes she also seems to not understand how to drink anymore: just dunks her beak in the water and then nothing.
We trimmed her beak a few days ago, but that did not help. Any ideas what this could be?

Does she have cross beak deformity? Do you have pictures? Has she been this way since she came to you? Is there any yellow material inside her beak? Can you see her tongue when you open her beak?

When we got her, the upper part of her beak was too long, but not crossed. We trimmed it, and it looks fine (she is asleep now, will take a picture in the morning). I don't see anything on the inside either, it looks perfectly normal.

It has gotten worse since we trimmed it, but we did it because we saw she had difficulty eating. I have had chickens that did not want to eat before, but this one is so interested in food!
