"What are you talking about?" Sage asked in dangerous low growl he lifted Kate's chin so he could see her eyes.

Kate wanted to break something. She kicked a tree stump, ignoring the pain that shot through her foot. Again and again she hit the stump, until she fell to the ground, rubbing her bruised foot. She didn't cry.
Kate's dark eyes looked into Sage's. "You said you liked her. Go ahead. Tell her. I don't care. Never did, never will," she said, and stood up.
"What?" Sage asked again confused.
"Don't you remember?! Don't you know? You said it yourself!" Kate said, glaring at Sage. She couldn't bring herself up to say the exact words. "I don't need you," she spat, and hurried away, dragging her foot behind her. She needed to be alone for a while.
