There was a strange ache in the back of his head as he sat up, like someone had thrown stones repeatedly against his skull. His eyes snapped open, but what he saw was nothing like the normally pale tan walls of his bedroom. Miles upon miles of barren land (or what seemed to be) stretched before him, the ground covered in thick layers of black and gray ash.
His heart slammed against his chest, and he wondered briefly if he was dreaming. But it felt to vivid to be a dream; and he could feel pain in the back of his head. You didn't feel pain in dreams, he remembered his mother telling him once.
He stood, blinking. Gray clouds hung heavy over the land, rapidly turning darker and darker. Where was he?
He took several tentatively steps forward, looking around wildly. There, a sign of life! He could see people not to far away, and he took off toward where they were, ignoring the pain in his head. "Hey!" He called as he neared them. "Do you know..." He drew off suddenly, a shudder spreading through his body. There were ten girls, standing hand in hand around something burning. But nothing about the sight was normal, even if girls standing around fire was odd enough. The girls eyes were solid white, no pupil or sign of life, reminding him of the full moon. Their faces were bruised, bleeding, rotted, hands malformed and fingers broken, wrists laying limp in another girls hand.
The flames roared, the faint shapes of large cats leaping inside the flames, flickering in and out. The girls chanted under their breathes, their skipping ceased, and their heads lowered, eyes flickering shut. Promptly, they fell, the flames burning out, leaving only smoking embers behind, and the girls themselves rose again, eyes now black instead of white.
One staggered to her feet, turning to him, her head twisted at a scarily abnormal angle, as if her neck had been snapped.
She advanced on him, slowly, a leg dragging behind her. Panic struck his chest, and he bolted, ash rising in thick clouds around him. He coughed, racing blindly. Anything to get away from those...creatures. He knew they were following him, he could hear their footsteps, their bloodthirsty shrieks.
He wondered, briefly, if he had been thrown into another dimension, where zombies existed. Was he in a zombie apocalypse, he wondered, as he burst into a clearing. The sky was pitch black, except for the full moon, hanging heavy in the sky. Wasn't it daylight minutes before? Where did the zombie girls go?
A snarl filled his ear, and he had a feeling something was behind him. He whipped around, his heart stopping for more beats then normal. A wolf, or what resembled a, stood behind him. But it was massive, about seven feet tall. It stood on it's hind legs, it's back hunched and front legs drawn into it's chest. It's face was longer then that of a normal wolf, eyes glittering a feral amber. Blood and saliva dripped from it's jaws, lips pulled back to reveal sharp fangs. It's fur was a gorgeous silver, but torn and bleeding.
His throat went dry, and he couldn't make a noise. Then he turned, and bolted. Would he make it out alive? Probably not, but it was worth a chance. He ran faster then he ever had before, and somehow his speed almost felt inhuman. A building loomed not to far away, and his heart soared. Maybe he would make it out alive after all.
He heard the slamming of paws, and the howls from the wolf, but he pushed onward. The door of the building flung open, a pale-haired girl standing in the doorway. "Get in!" She shrieked. And he did so, skidding into the building, the door closing inches from where his foot had been.
The wolf creature flung itself at the door, clawing and biting, but it couldn't get in, somehow.
"W-what is that? W-who are y-you?" He stammered.
"Werewolf." She replied grimly. "I'm Christina, you?"
"J-Jackson. W-what is this p-place?"
She gave a grim smile, her eyes darkening. "Well, Jackson. Welcome to the Burning World."

Summary: Those between the ages of twelve and twenty six will awaken to a different world then anything they have ever seen. Wild cats made of fire, moon and shadow eyed zombies, raging werewolves, bloodthirsty vampires and vanishing ghosts are just a few of the creatures you'll meet when you wake.
If you manage to get to the Homebase without getting killed by any of these creatures, you'll find a sanctuary. But not without a price. You and the people you will meet in this Homebase have been infected by one of these five creatures: Werebat, Weretiger, Siren, Vampire, or Werewolf. Every full moon you will transform into these creatures against your will.
Work with your allies at the Homebase, search for clues, and find a way out of the alternate dimension. Oh, and watch out for the Moonshadow's on your way out the door.

CREATURES THAT LIVE IN THE BURNING WORLD

Moonshadow's: Essentially, Zombies. They are drawn to fire, and only once a certain ritual is complete will they become harmful. Hunt in packs.

Pixie: Deceitful tricksters. Smaller then the average human, only around two feet tall, or less. Dragonfly like wings, and they only speak in rhymes or riddles. Following one of these creatures could make or break your life, so take caution.

Unicorn: Massive horses, larger then the biggest Shire. Silver, gold, white or black, with glowing, star-specked horns and pelts. Alluring creatures, living in herbs. Foals and Mares will lure you in, and then the lead Stallion will kill you, and eventually, eat you.

Centaur: One of the few creatures you can trust in the Burning World. Half human, half horse, often living in herds, and are the 'Guardian's' of the Burning World. Rare to see, but if they find you in danger, they will safe you.

Chimera: A three headed, fire-breathing creature. Lion body, and lion head, a goat head, and a snake-headed tail, with the wings of a hawk. Deadly if you cross paths. Loners.

Harpy: Hawk-winged people, with the legs of a bird-of pray, and moon like eyes, similar to the Moonshadow's. Hunt in flocks.

Medusa: The queen of all Creatures, and the only one of her kind. From the waist up, she is a woman. From the waist down, she is a snake. Snakes replace her hair, and her stare is deadly, and will turn you to stone.

CREATURES THAT YOUR CHARACTER WILL BE INFECTED AS

Note: Your character will ONLY be transformed on the night of the FULL MOON, and no other time. Transformations are painful, and you have no control over it at all.

Werebat: The moment the full moon touches the edge of the sky, you will be transformed into a massive bat-like creature, though with large fangs. You will completely lose your human mind, taken over by the bloodthirsty instincts of the Werebat. Transformations are painful, and you may be killed by another creatures. Go carefully, Werebat, and control the beast inside you before it consumes you and every human instinct you have completely.

Weretiger: Almost the same as the Werebat. The moment the full moon touches the sky, you will be transformed into a raging tiger, with no control over the flesh-hungry beast. Go careful.

Siren: Half human, half fish. Scales are midnight black, navy blue or bright silver in color. Shape-shifters, often looking like a very pretty mermaid or handsome merman to lure other humans in with their song, but their true form in a fanged, flesh-eating, clawed Siren.

Vampire: Translucent, red-eyed, pale-skinned, blood-sucking humanoids. Often drinks the blood of were-creatures, humans, unicorns or centaurs.

Werewolf: 7-8 foot tall wolf. Often their face in malformed, their back hunched, front legs normally drawn into its chest and walking on their hind legs. Incredibly fast runners.

SETUP

When you start the Roleplay, your character will be waking up in the Burning World for the first time. Make it creative! Are they chased by a vampire? Does a centaur come and rescue them? Do they witness a Moonshadow ceremony? You decided!
After that, your character will come across the Homebase. Upon arriving, you will meet a young woman, Christina. Do as she tells you, proceed with caution, and wait for further instructions from Christina.

Halcyon Thomas jolted awake, heart racing even though she didn’t know why. It took a few minutes for her vision to stop fading in and out and adjust to the dark, and she blinked, trying to clear it and see where she was when she realized she didn’t recognize her surroundings. She struggled to her feet, stomach twisting, and managed to crawl to to a standing position only to fall back onto her hands and knees. She stayed there for a second before her eyes focused on a bloody, fleshy bone in front of her. Letting out a shriek, she scrambled backwards, fear driving her upwards until she stood and finally got a good look at the place she was in. A clear black sky stretched above her, a huge full moon hanging in the sky and barren wasteland spreading out on either side, with a deep forest hovering in the distance. Her breath started coming in short gasps as panic set in, and she looked back down at the bone on the ground in front of her only to notice what seemed to be an entire eaten carcass spread out around her. Where the heck am I? She wondered, trying to think of a place on Earth that looked like this and failing miserably. Then she noticed movement on her left. Actually weirdly enough she smelled something on her left, a stench unlike anything she had encountered before. It smelled like a mixture of wet dog and rotting flesh. She spun to face it, her fighting instinct taking over, and her mouth dropped open when she saw it. I’m definitely not on Earth. That was the only thing going threw her mind as she turned and ran, fear and pure adrenaline fueling her body as she raced away from that, that, thing. She hadn’t seen it too well, more like registered the mere size of it and ran, but she had seen fur, and glistening teeth and eyes, and a deformed, evil face. She headed toward the forest, hoping that she’d lose it in the tangle of the woods. Finally she broke into the line of trees, crashing through the undergrowth and leaping at the nearest tree, scrambling to a higher branch and turning to look back at the creature. Its stink pervaded her nostrils and its eyes gleamed in the dim moonlight as it watched her, having settled at the bottoms of her place of safety. It didn’t look as if it could climb, but now she had trapped herself. The only thing she could do was wait and hope it lost interest and left. She settled down into a more comfortable position on her branch and began trying to process what was happening. I’m somewhere not on Earth being chased by a wolf-humanoid. As she shook her head to try and clear her thoughts a sharp pain stabbed in the back of her neck and another followed in her mouth. It felt like a horrible toothache. She let out an exclamation of pain and squeezed her eyes shut, willing away the pain.

Arcturus wasn't sure why, but the ground beneath him sure didn't feel like his bed. His eyes snapped open, and he jerked up, glancing around wildly. This was most defintally not his bed. He realized the ground beneath him was coated in a slick, black layer of ash, as if a wildfire had swept everything away.
His heart kicked and pounded against his chest, screaming frantically to get out, as he stood. The land was completely barren, and on the far side of the...field...a fire burned and roared, licking the night sky, eliminating the land. Cats, tigers and lions, leapt in the fire, pelts made of flame, heads thrown back and jaws snapping open in furious roars.
He staggered a few steps forward, wondering if he was dreaming. This definitally was not earth. He froze suddenly, a strange noise behind him. Slowly, he turned. A snow leopard stood behind him. Or, at least, it resembled a snow leopard. A snow leopard on two legs, with knives, and hands more human then feline, that is.
He should have run, the creature was breathing heavily, jaws parting and snarling something in a guttural language. But he couldn't. Painful tremors shook his body, the moon rising higher. He hissed, staggered. Oddly, the cat-person took a step back, and fled.
Arcturus stifled a yell as a sharp, blinding pain clenched him, his hands feeling like they were breaking. When he lifted them to his face, however, he realized...they were. His wrist snapped from his arm, earning a sharp yelp from his lips, somehow joining back onto his arm, yet looked more like a paw or foot then anything. His fingers melted together, skin melting and reforming. He dropped to his knees as a wave of nausea and pain blinded him. He was sure he just heard bones cracking, and his back arching in a completly inhuman manner. He was positive even Remy, who was extremely flexible, couldn't do something like he was then.
His yelps turned into strange guttural snarls, his jaw snapping out of place and reforming.
He wasn't sure when it happened, but the pain stopped, and he lay in a heap, whimpering. Slowly, Arcturus stood. But he wasn't Arcturus anymore. He had no recognition of his human mind, the only thoughts were rabid and raging and not at all human. Kill, trapped, flesh, pain...kill.
He glanced down, his eyes meeting skeletal paws, thick with silver-white fur. He reared onto his hind legs, and threw back his head. What was intended to be a shriek as the last bit of his human mind relized what was happening, was really a howl.

~

Remus' eyes snapped open, but the world was dark. Slowly, she rose to her feet. But they weren't feet. They were paws. Her mind wasn't human. It was feral, rabid. Her jaw hung slack, tasting the air. Hunt, kill, pack.
Why did her body ache? She couldn't remember. She heard a feral howl, and suddenly she reared, throwing her head back and returning the screeching howl with just as much furiocity as the other wolf. She snarled, and pelted into the night, gray-green eyes gleaming with hunger.

Melissa woke up but kept her eyes closed. Why was it so cold, why didn't she hear her parents downstairs in the kitchen making breakfast? Why was her usually soft comfortable bed so hard? Why did it feel dark? She opened her eyes. She was not in her cozy bedroom at home, she was probably not even on earth. The ground was cold and damp, not much seemed to be growing, it looked as though there had been a fire. Melissa quickly sat up, her breathing quickened. "Mom?!" "Dad?!!" "Anyone?!!!" No one answered her. Melissa saw what looked like some trees she started walking towards them. This is really weird she thought, why is this happening...how could I wake up in a different world. Did something happen while I was sleeping? I don't like this...
