After class, Nikki went back to the stables. She put Justin in his stall, and gave him a scoop of feed. The huge bay stallion took an eager bite, and Nikki pulled a small, puffy peppermint out of her pocket. She hid it behind her back, but Justin knew what it was when he heard the plastic crinkle. He stared at her, his eyes almost begging as she tucked the plastic back into her pocket. Nikki offered it to him, and he took the sweet morsel almost instantly. "You earned it today, buddy." She gave him a pat on the neck, and stepped out of the stall.

"Good, very good, boy," Lauren praised, and Tontigo bobbed his head down and snorted. Lauren scratched Tontigo's neck, beneath the braided fire-red mane.
"I know that the class isn't here yet, Sadie," Lauren announced, "but I'd like to remind you that the regionals are coming up in two weeks."

(I'm sorry I'm kinda new to all this fancy horse talk..... But what's a regional?) 

( An athletic contest involving competitors from a particular region. )

(Okay.) 
"Oh, yes I know," Sadie said to Lauren.
Cloud looked over at Tontigo . "Hello," She said to him.

"Good," Lauren nodded.
Tontigo snorted, battling for more rein. When Lauren gave it to him, he pulled his head up high, and bared his teeth at Cloud.

Sadie smiled.
Cloud whinnied.
(Tontigo and Cloud could become mates if you want.)

Moon ate hay in his stall. He waited to be let out.
Sara Louise sat on a chair in the barn. She was listening to country music on her MP3 Player and eating a beef sandwich when Moon neighed. She got up, reached for the lead line and clipped it onto his halter. Moon almost trotted down the barn aisle into the pasture. He nickered warmly.
Midnight Velvet grazed in the paddock and whinnied to Tontigo and any other stallion or gelding that would hear.
