Does he quack at all or are his tail feathers flipping up yet? I do not have runners but my male pekin and male mallard do not quack at all. It is more of a whistle and raspy noise. From you experience so far are your runners friendly or calm? Is the female calmer than the male? I really want a runner but still deciding. I like friendly ducks because they are pets and I have a 4 year old that loves to play with them.

His tailfeathers are Slightly curling up...I could notice it way faster on my pekins. He whistles but don't quack that why i think he is a drake. So far they are pretty calm when they sleep jk... they have their moments of getting exicted but generally calm. I think they try to show off to my other ducks (pekins and rouens). They both are pretty shy yet when it comes to me but they are getting better Everyday, just takes time for them to trust you I guess... My are both about the same temperant so far, the female is super loud like my female pekin though, that one major difference.

I hear ya with the females being loud. I have 3 female pekins (how did I get so lucky) LOL This morning it was a competition to see who could be loudest the longest. I am waiting for the neighbors to start complaining. I would like to add a female runner, but if she is as loud as my pekins, oh my. I also have a female mallard/rouen (not sure which she is yet). her quack is not as loud as the pekins, but she tries.

My male pekin and mallard's tail feathers curled up at around 5 weeks. My guess is if your runner is not quacking he must be a boy.

I am going to wait until next spring to add more ducks to my flock, but I really want a runner. I just have to decide which color and sex.
