Checked for more eggs yesterday, the pair that had laid two so far had not laid yesterday. There was an egg in my other pen but it was a soft shell. I know that can be common among show quality birds. What are the odds it was a pullets first egg and it was a fluke? Is it likely they will all be that way? Hoping there may be another one tonight that is normal.

Do you have oyster shell out for them? I had a few soft shells until they started eating the oyster shell.

I had never seen a soft shell egg before in all my years of chickens. I wonder if I can tell if it is fertile? I left it outside last night. If it didn't bust I will check it tonight. My drake in that pen is aged. So interested to see if he is actually breeding

If you are dealing with normal birds of value, the first egg can be soft quite often. With DUX, I think you should thank your lucky stars and pray for more like it....

I'm sitting here giggling, 'cause my new Call duckling is try to perfect her quack. And I say her because I heard a few what I think are female quacks. Looks like Little Ralphie will have a girlfriend!
