I live in the country and there no one but me in the back yard most of the time so I really don't want to look at a 2 feet wood barrier , I would like to watch and look at my ducks in there aviary . To me having a 2 ft barriers don't make cents if there not alot of people or movement around the aviary .

The sight barrier won't prevent you from seeing your ducks, mine is only 18" high. It is there so predators like raccoons and foxes walking by, don't see the ducks and therefore have no reason to walk over to the aviary to look for a way to get in. Also, the sight barrier doesn't have to be unsightly, here are pictures of mine....

As far as electric wire I really don't have electric at this point out there and my chicken and turkey pens are behind the wooden fence behind the duck aviary and don't have electric wire on ther pens , just covered fence runs on the chickens and the turkeys well I have not had any problems with them and there runs are not cover much to larger and big to cover .

We don't have electric either by our aviary either. We just have a small solar powered electric fence, it works great! You can see it on the left corner of the aviary in the first picture.

Pretty sure if they are that close they can smell them... But it does help to keep small nooks and crannies closed up, for ducklings, etc. And the sight barrier cleans up the place... I can mow and weed eat right next to mine and it stys looking pretty good most of the time. Just the grass in my pen, I need something to keep it down! I had to get my mower in there the other day and mow it down! Looks like I might be getting some wigeon to eat the grass down this fall. What other wild species will eat it down?
