Black rat snake.

I love snakes! All reptiles really. I even made a whole thread for it I think rat snakes are illegal here though or maybe it’s o ly one specific type. I forget which.

That sucks.
I saved mine from being eaten by my dog, and everything I find online says I only have to get a permit for exotic snakes and I can't find any prohibitions about non endangered Texas snakes. These snakes are killed or run over all the time out here, and they're probably the most common nuisance snake around.

That’s awesome you saved it! It does suck they’re not allowed here though probably cause they’re not that common and they’re trying to save them? Or maybe they’re too common and trying to prevent invasive species from perpetuating

I can definitely see why they wouldn't want them breeding all over the place. All rat snakes are beneficial, but these big monsters could probably overrun a lot of smaller more docile snakes if there's not quite enough food or space in an area. On the other hand if rodents are a problem they probably don't want one of the best rodent killers being scooped up by just anybody.
