It’s so hard to say the words “she’s dead” because the truth in them is incredibly painful. I loved this cat so much, she was so sweet and I am lucky she spent all four short years of her life with me. She meant so much to me and to others, but it’s too hard to accept the fact that she is never coming home and I will never see her again.
Shadow had a thousand nicknames. Dumb names but meaningful names nonetheless. She was Shadow Cat, Wads Cads, Doey Wads, Do, Doey, Shads Cads, Cadsies Wadsies, Little Do, Baby Cat, and way more than I can list off.
To think that I will never get to hold her again and tell her how much she means to me, never get to watch her chase a chipmunk up a tree, clean up the frogs she leaves on the porch, clean cobwebs off her face after getting stuck in the barn rafters, run an agility course with her, train her to do spins and tricks, take hikes in the woods with her, and do all the things I used to do with her again is too hard to accept. I just want her back and I want nothing else.
Shadow died last night after being in the animal ICU for Bobcat Fever. She passed this morning and I wasn’t even there to say goodbye. All I can say for you all, is don’t treat as just a rare disease. I would never expect something like this to happen to my sweet little cat but it did. If you are aware that Bobcat fever has been reported in your area, or have Bobcats around, take all the precautions you can to protect your outdoor cats and barncats. Its transmitted by ticks so I use a seresto tick collar and it works great. Replace it every eight months or it doesn’t work. I found that out the worst way possible.
I just don’t want this to happen to anyone else. Seeing her in the state she was last night was absolutely heartbreaking. She was in tremendous pain. Don’t let this happen to your cat.
Take a moment and look through all these photos for me. They all share a story about how much I loved her and why.
