yeah it sux when the go nocturnal but hopefully you have a “second rut”. last saturday was 21 days I shot the doe (during peak rut activity) and the group was traveling together again. As we were looking for blood, mr muddy found fresh buck sign on the trail so we either have a new one taking over or the one i killed was not the dominant
yes i had a feeling i would get a laugh on that elkman! 🤣🤣🤣
of course another, easier option would be to visit a state like kentucky where it’s legal to bait 🤔🤔🤔

The only thing legal to bait here is bear. One needs to read the baiting rules carefully because there are sometimes legal loopholes.

in indiana the rules are extremely clear any feed/supplement etc that is not a natural byproduct of agricultural must be removed along with any affected soil at least 10 days before season begins

That is if you hunt of the baited area. BUT you should be able to hunt the trail leading to the bait while not hunting over the bait itself

Pretty much the same here. Baiting would make life easier. Nocturnal deer should be eliminated with bright lights and high powered rifles, but they frown on that here.

My camera did show one a couple days ago standing just the other side of the pines in front of me. But she never stepped out.

If my stand was on any other side of the pines than this one I am on I might have gotten a shot.

With only 5 days left, my mind is starting to wander to ice fishing and spearing.

That would cost you here and you would lose the right to hunt for 2 years.

If you have bait out you’re illegal. The only thing I can see to do is become a pumpkin and rutabaga farmer and not harvest until January.. :lau

no you can be fined and more if game warden determines that deer is “under the influence” of bait even if the hunter did not place it..... minimum fine is $300 Unfortunately I know this firsthand! several years ago, we put out a mineral block in late summer and assumed that it would be completely dissolved/gone and basically forgot about it. game warden found 1 tiny piece left in the weeds 🤦‍♀️ that was the last time we bothered with cameras, pre-season scouting etc.
