I don’t see ‘chow chow’ very often. In fact most people look at me weird when I refer to it. My family recipe is cabbage onion and green tomato equal parts by volume. Jalapeño peppers for heat, ferment like sauerkraut.
what prompted mr muddy to do his own was the debate over my green tomato ketchup......he didn’t use the cabbage and no sugar. his is green tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeños, serranos, and horseradish. he canned it vs fermentation maybe try something different next year! I also tried some of our pickled green tomatoes last night! :drool:drool we decided they will be awesome on hamburgers and mr muddy may fry some too!!

Hot chowchow in my mind is shredded pickled peppers. Float a dollop in a bowl of gumbo for flavor and spice.
Sweet chowchow was something else. Let me ask Mawmaw how she made it or who she got it from. I don't care for spicy sweets or sweet relish.

Horseradish is a surprise no matter where you find it. Powerful stuff.
