I can totally understand that but I personally love them lol granted, I’ve always thought Monopoly was pretty boring but it is fun sometimes. Was never a huge Yahtzee fan, I suck at math
but I LOVE Life or The Game of Life or whatever it’s called and I also loved Sorry and Trouble. Both of those were fun. And of course Twister was always a fun one lol and none board game related but I used to love Charades. And Pictionary. And that new Heads Up game is a lot of fun lol and Telephone was always fun.
my grandma used to love Scrabble so I played that with her a bunch. And also my brothers used to obsessed with Risk. I’m surprised you don’t like that one. Lots of strategy involved. But of course it is a VERY long game. Even longer than Monopoly. Sometimes it could take all night or a couple days LOL also poker and black jack and even go fish were always fun
If they don't have cell service or Wi-Fi , what are the odds they're on the grid at all? I don't know anyone personally that doesn't at least have some Internet available. If it's just regular social contact with an acquaintance, regular mail suffices anyway. I do have a post office... I'm not

There used to be a regular wall phone, but the cost of keeping it became greater than the use I got from it.
That makes sense. Phones are expensive. My parents have actually toyed with the idea of getting rid of the house phone since we all have cell phones and we mostly only get calls from telemarketers and her family. Everyone else calls or texts our cell phones. But we haven’t yet. She like she using it.

I recognize the downsides of not having one, but to me, they are far smaller than the benefits from avoiding them like the plague. Maybe the day will come when having a phone becomes a requirement, but today is not that day for me. Statistically, the odds of ending up in a situation where my life is in danger and could be saved simply by having a phone are nearly nonexistant. I'd say 1% in any given decade.

I have a related debate with the others who live here from time to time.
Most people that I know here speak at least three languages. The others in the main house speak four or five and are immensely pleased with themselves regarding this accomplishment.
The pride taken in using correct English is a bit like my multiple language argument; not a lot of point if the content is a lot of banal rubbish. It's the content that matters, not if it's perfectly written or spoken.
I see proper English as something that carries the content of the message along better than sloppy or nonstandard writing would. I don't see it as the
point of writing in itself. I still enjoy learning it. It's a really neat system with some truly fascinating changes that occur over time.
Yes, I have an actual Dictionary. When I was in college we had dial up internet, landline phones, and the internet was NOT deemed a reliable source when writing research papers and we had to go to the library and find and cite actual books made out of paper. And now, even more than before, anyone can publish anything they want online, fact or fiction, and its hard to wade through the millions of hits of misinformation. Technology changes so fast, this is now making me feel old. And when I think about it, we didn't even have internet at our off campus apartments, I'd go to a computer lab or the library to do anything I needed online. I'm sure younger kids think all this is crazy talk.
I actually do remember this lol I don’t know if we had dial up and I definitely have internet/devices in high school and college so a little different but it was all still pretty new and bulky and I do remember for research papers and stuff we had to go get actual books and actual scientific journals and stuff.
Wikipedia wasn’t a reliable source they said (still isn’t really though lol) and even looking for scholarly articles online was still relatively new.
Most of the research had to come from books. Or actually, I think they usually had a requirement about sources. Like you had to use so many sources for the paper and then of those sources so many had to be actual books and then some could be journals or articles. But even those had to be like peer reviewed/reputable. No just Googling haha
I remember in elementary school or middle school maybe for some reason we had to go to the library and look at an actual encyclopedia once to find stuff for something we were doing haha definitely a lot harder than Googling.
But even now tech is still changing fast and tech I had just 5-10 years ago is obsolete already and definitely making me feel old too haha I mean technically if you think about it, iPhones were only released like 10, 12 years ago, iPods a bit longer, and look how far all of that has come in only 10 years and how much better the cameras are now than a few years ago. They now rival actual cameras and actually are better than actual cameras for early 2000s. It’s insane. And how many apps and stuff are always coming out. It really is moving and changing so fast even now. It’s still changing. It’s insane how much it’s changed even just in like 10-15 years, even 5 years.
Now I sound old.
