➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

No ducks yet, but I might go to Chinatown and see if I can find a couple Baluts to save! Think my BA could do the job if she goes broody again?
Only if you are able to keep them once they hatch or already have home lined up before you get them.

Do you want me to look on your area for a store I think could possible carry them?

I work in Boston, plenty of stores in Chinatown that would probably have them. I've seen some nasty stuff hanging in the windows of some of them!

Those pictures are a lie.
No way in the world a mango can be cut like that.

I think you should make an attempt at this and livestream it for us.

Not if they are this loud:

My ducks are definitely that loud, but not all the time. They are that loud when I pull in the driveway after work and get quiet after I refill the food. They are also that loud if a prairie dog gets in their run or the neighbors' dog is in our yard.

When is that happening? Living in the country is awesome.

I love hatching and wish I could do it more often. I remember reading on some hatching thread, that someone put an "I will hatch your eggs" CL ad, and basically only got a couple of responses saying they are interested if you can hatch them "girl" eggs, lol.

I was debating letting a broody hatch pure bred Blue Swedish eggs. I put an add on CL saying if anyone was interested to let me know how many they wanted and I'd set the eggs. I had a similar response, people who would take the females. I should have invited them over so they could teach me how to sex all the eggs before I set them!

I need to work on macgyvering a pool.
They are just too small for the real baby pool, I think.

I used a small kitty litter pan. Anything shallow will work. I have also used a sled. I'm guessing you don't have an assortment of sleds laying around though. A paint tray works well because it's deeper at one end. You should be able to find something. A cookie tin or cake pan maybe.

I macgyvered my first duck waterer.
About to test it out now. :flView attachment 1465144

If you use your lighter and melt the edges, it won't be so sharp.

So what you are saying, if I find homes for the chicks, you will hatch 30 eggs for us? I'll ask chicken rancher tomorrow. The prophecy says I have enough chickens this summer. Ducks, otoh, especially the silent ones... Off to google.

So when does the quail habitat get populated?

Yes I will hatch them. :D:D:D:D:D:D

I need to go pick up the local eggs, when ever.
I had put them on hold for the baluts.
I'm not in a rush.
