➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I don't think ducks really notice or mind, much like chickens. Mine are a lot of different breeds and they all get along. Same with dogs lol although that said I do think sometimes they prefer their own breed, like herding dogs have a totally different play style than retrievers, and huskies, samoyeds, etc. Are much more of a "pack breed" and love dogs of their own breed/type. And even the chickens sometimes seem to hang put with each other. Like my Australorps are bullies and the Orpingtons are best friends.

In our flock, it’s clear that they know what they look like even with our giant random mix. We have three hens that don’t have a matching counterpart and they are always alone, while all of our matched pairs stick like glue. The two barred rocks stay together, the two older Australorps stay together while the younger two stick together even though they all look the same.

Both my Swedish & Pekin tower over my Cayuga. It doesn't seem to bother any of them. Good luck. :fl:fl
She’s just so timid. Part of our problem search is finding ones that are okay with dogs because our dogs and birds all co-exist.

If you get desperate enough and want a pekin I can give you one so your baby won't be lonely. I think we are relative neighbors.
Oh my gosh. Everyone here is so kind :hugs I’ll let you know if it comes to that. She’s currently laying next to my black lab, making happy quack sounds which kind of reinforces my thoughts that a similar color duck would be best, but I will keep your offer in my mind. Thank you so much. :hugs

Negan is on his last straw with me. He spends all his time forcing himself on his hens instead of watching the skies, and then just watches as the older hens attack the young ones after he’s mated with the young ones. He screams when a leaf is blown over by the wind so none of the hens run for cover anymore. I cannot wait until I can hatch his replacement. :barnie

Mine tend to do that too! Australorps with the Australorps, Orpingtons with Orpingtons, etc. Although my one EE is a similar color to the Orpingtons and about as low ranking so she tends to hang with them sometimes. And one of my Australorps is more of a jerk than the other and one tends to hang with my Barred Rock a lot. The Barred Rock and Australorps are at the top of the pecking order.
