That lovely pale sky blue. Are legbars good layers, in general?

Mine aren't. One hen started laying in January. She laid an egg on the 14th, the 15th and then on the 17th. She did not lay any more eggs until yesterday. The last I looked, she was in a nest box today so she might lay another egg today or not. The other legbar hen has not laid any eggs since last fall and even then she was only 3 to 4 eggs a week.

Are they supposed to be good layers? I personally love my blue egg laying EE hens. Wonderful layers. I like the looks of the legbar, but I want hens that are good layers in addition to being easy on the eyes.

As far as I know yes. My pullets are amazing so far. And they were bred from leghorns so they have that going for them. In my case, I bought the hatching eggs from someone that had a business selling pricey colorful eating eggs at fancy schmany farmers market. So she was selectively breeding for laying capability and egg characteristics. I have high hope for my girls.

Sorry to hear that. Mine are primarily pets though, so even if their current laying streak ends I will still be happy. I think their personalities are funny.

Neat! Perhaps a lot of variance within the breed, then. To be expected, I suppose.

That would make sense. And mine are new layers so they are at peak performance right now things may change with age. But I will love them anyway. So goofy.

I came home to a new layer! A first egg from our 21 week old EE! I could have sworn that one was a cockerel for the longest time then I realized 18 weeks had passed and it was all female-type feathers.

We are all old. They retired to AZ, I didn't.

Whenever she wanted it. My Dad got really offended because he asked her who she would rescue if he and the dog were hanging off the edge of a cliff and she had to think about it. She said that the dogs don't have hands to climb up, but he could.

Did he remind her that she could always get another dog? I'm sure her reply to that would be that could always get another husband...

This is probably kind of a weird or stupid question and kind of irrelevant because I can’t keep a rooster here anyways and my parents are weird about eating fertile eggs but I am curious.... what color birds and eggs could I possibly expect from my birds if I got a rooster? I know there is probably no answer for this as there would probably be huge variation given how varied my flock is but I am curious if I would possibly get any colored egg layers or any sex links? Rooster breeds I would potentially get if I did get a rooster include: White Leghorn, Buff Orpington, New Hampshire Red, Ameracauna, Easter Egger, Speckled Sussex, or maybe Delaware or Plymouth Rock (Barred or Partridge). Most likely a red roo (Orp or NHR), colored layer like EE or Am, or leghorn. Would the leghorn make production crosses/super good layers maybe? Current hens are 1 Barred Rock, 2 Black Australorps, 2 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Easter Eggers. My one Easter Egger lays really well so it’d be cool if I could continue her lines. Although they might be too old? Turned 3 in October. And I probably can’t get a rooster the new chicks are one each of White Leghorn, Partridge Rock, Speckled Sussex, Easter Egger, and Delaware.
