➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Patience? Yeah, right! You just don’t want to miss the quail hatching!! :p

And hmmm, yeah you are probably right!! I probably would!!! LOL although idk. I might get bored until they hatch. I kind of like the set it and leave it type lol

Okay, okay, build first!! Or maybe order then build then order eggs lol no egg ordering until it’s built.

Thanks I’ll do that. Does regular incubation ruin the styrofoam ones?
Also, is there food available at feedstores in your area that will be good for quail, or that you can order? And are you willing to buy a lot of it? Because they love to waste food. And they eat a lot of food when there are a lot of quail. Start small then grow your quail horde once you have everything nailed down.

No.
Build first.
Plan right. ( my way)

Okay, I will. Although technically if I don’t order any eggs yet the exact order doesn’t really matter too much :p

For real Kels you have to build first and plan/think out what you are really going to do with a million quail.

That’s true too. I am thinking I may limit my numbers and not order nearly so many. Maybe just the Celadons since they can be different feather colors anyway and then just keep a few (like under 25) as pets/eggs. And sell the eggs.

I think so. I think I found a good brand last night and I might go to some of the feed stores today to see if they have the brand I saw. I think I have seen it there. And that is true. Good point. Thanks.

Although I guess in my mind, I am probably eventually going to order more anyway so I figure why not order a bunch now, but that is probably a dumb plan. Thinking I will start small first. Maybe not even order any. Maybe start with a few of Kiki’s first after I build a few cages and order the incubator. And maybe a few Celadons. May forget all the colored ones since Celadons come in different feather colors anyway.

No Styrofoam ruins regular incubation.
Short answer they hold too much humidity (ambient humidity)

That's what I tell people that want to get into games. Use your money for supplies the first couple years cause if they spend good money on birds they very well may learn they are not what they are supposed to be. There s alot of peddlers in the gamefowl world and until your in the know you're just going off someone's word.
Buy supplies can't never have too many

What will you do with your extra males that you hatch? It’s not very easy to sell off quail roos compared to chicken roos.

Ahhh okay. That makes sense. Thanks. Yet another reason to avoid Styrofoam.

Good idea, thanks. And also that way the expense is more spread out or even a little less which is good cause if they pay a lot for birds, they may skimp out on supplies if they buy them all together instead of getting them first and getting good ones.

Idk yet. I don't think I would eat them but if it came to that I may. But hopefully not. But I think I am going to start with way less birds now to hopefully have less extra birds and if I do end up with extra, I may just make a separate pen/breeding group to house them. And not many people have quail here that I am aware of so I think it may be a little easier but maybe not. But it is very densely populated around this area and I am also a member of a very active and nice homesteading group on FB for this area so I am sure I could find somebody willing to take them. But I don't mind keeping them until I do. And I don't mind if somebody else eats. I just couldn't kill them myself.

Any mom and pop restaurants in town?

Dang it. They don't have it at TSC. They only have these ones and then Flock Raiser, All Flock, Feather Fixer, Meatbird Crumbles, and then the rest chicken feed like various starter/growers and layer feeds. About to go check our other feed store. They may have it. Of not, I can order it online. I was just hoping someone local had it. If neither of those two have it then it may be at another store, there are numerous ones around here, but they are further away and I don't feel like driving to any further away ones today lol I am assuming Flock Raiser won't work?
