➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Ahh yes. The spring maintenance/chores. We are going to be fencing in the field in front of our home. And build another chicken coop. We'd like to figure in a pond somewhere for the ducks (and geese when we get them), so we might need to rethink where everything is at the moment and do some rearranging. Not sure on that one yet. And we ordered bees and are doing bees for the first time so we need to figure out where to put them. Haven't even given much thought to my garden yet. Tis that time of year.

I need to build a duck house soon by our 150k gallon pond. My new duckies will love it.

When I was out earlier with the chickens, I saw one of them laying on her side, fanning her wing out and flapping it a little bit. At first I figured she was cooling off. I was like, dang, it's not THAT warm today. Then something caught my eye. Her underbelly. I saw wet and she was plucking at her feathers. Once I finally caught her I tried looking at her. I could easily see bare tummy. Just lightly push back some feathers, which were looking a little ragged and frayed, and they flipped up exposing her stomach. Which was smooth. Completely bare. I ended up putting her down but tomorrow I am going to catch her again and give her a more thorough look over. Suggestions on what I should be looking for? Just creepy crawlies or anything else? My girls are 11months old. Do they moult around this time? I didn't think they were old enough.

It’s possible that she is thinking about going broody.

I actually mentioned that to my hubby because I read/saw on here that they will pluck their feathers to get their skin up against the eggs for warmth. I just thought maybe I was jumping the gun on that. I haven't noticed anyone sitting in the nest boxes for a long extended time or anything and I thought maybe the plucking comes AFTER the sitting starts? I am so new at this so I just don't know. I will still look for creepy crawlies just in case tho. I just have to figure out which one it was lol.

Yeah, doing some investigative work myself that's what I saw as well. Like I said, it's a spare/backup. We're fiddling with it to see how it works and runs and the temp and humidity and it has an alarm and whatnot. We figured it would be worth a try in getting. Worse case scenario is we're out the monies that we paid for it. Not like I have money lying around just to throw here or there or burn but I just mean that it's not the end of the world. I'm not setting 96 eggs in it right now without familiarizing myself with it. I don't see myself putting the second racks that go on top of what you see in the pic I took at all. But I am curious when after we're comfortable with how it's going to function maybe trying it out. That just won't be anytime soon. Maybe eventually tho.

Yeah, being a slightly cheaper one money wise isn’t necessarily bad, sorry, didnt mean to imply it was cheap like junk, should still work well!!! And you save money!!

My organic chem midterm was.. not so hot. I made the second highest grade in the class with a 77. Technically an 87 after extra credit points are tallied but I mean, yikes.
:th
Still waiting for my physics midterm score. We’ve already had 3 physics tests this semester.

I wasn’t kidding when I said this dog adores me. :love I just took this picture.

He’s the best boy in the entire universe and I hate that he’s not feeling 120%. He deserves to feel 500000%. He’s starting to get frustrated that he can’t use the old water bowel since he can’t reach it for long periods and pawing it. I know the aspirins are helping though as he gets excited to play when he starts feeling good. It’s just going to take some time.

Awwww soooo cute!! Love his big dumb face lol And you are so pretty.

Said it before, and I'll say it again... He's the best looking boxer I've ever seen. :love

They are very cute!! But I have never seen Cobra’s coloring.

They're very nice looking dogs... Cobra still wins!

I think it’s the color that does it for me.

Thank you thank you! :)

Like this? Brood patch. I noticed Ivy plucked about 3-4 days before she went broody.
