➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I want the story. What kind was it? Are you a snake keeper? I'm intrigued!

X2 lol

I did have the pretty spider living in my coop too. I think it finally got eaten, but it was really pretty. Looked like a small garden spider but it's body was silver looking like a bb.

I’m not really sure what kind of spider this is or the color. Kinda grayish.

My mom got bit by a brown recluse and had to get a chuck of her leg cut out about the size of a moonpie

Oh wow those all sound super painful and that black widow incident sounds terrifying!! glad you’re okay!! Was I on the thread yet for that? I don’t seem to remember it for some reason. I remember some hospitalizations from the seizures and stuff but I don’t remember about a black widow? Maybe I’m just losing my mind. :lau

That’s good!! Glad to hear it. Do you have many there?

And OMG lol So weird they only bite you!!

And :lau poor guy! I think I’m just too sweet :p ;)

Jk jk. Idk why they love me so much. I wish they wouldn’t.
You were probably on the thread, I dunno. It was when my current chickens were chicks, so July of last year.

Many what, snakes? In the US there are four different venomous snakes (rattle, cottonmouth, copperhead, and coral) and in Texas we have all four. What kind you’ll see most depends on where you live.
My parents live in a forest and see copperheads very frequently. On our last property we had a neighborhood lake that had a nasty cottonmouth nest that was particularly dangerous. The only rattler I’ve ever seen spooked my horse near that same lake. Coral snakes are very shy but if you pay attention you might see one in the grass or as roadkill.

It’s a yellow garden spider. Supposed to be good for gardens.. go figure.

Thanks He/she/It has a huge web prolly 4' in diameter
Ugh. Our last property was full of banana spiders. Their webs would be 5-6’ wide or so, but the support strands would reach 20’ across the trees and forest trails. Walking into one of those is so disgusting. I’m getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

Hmmm... I don’t know.. I don’t think I remember you having little chicks? Idk, I lose track of time :lau I didn’t realize this thread was so new either! Only last year? We sure talk a lot. :lau probably mostly me. :lau  anyway, didn’t think I joined so close to the beginning of it but idk. Maybe fall? Or late summer? Do you guys remember my pumpkins? :lau was definitely before December cause I still had Gator. Maybe I was here earlier, idk, I really have absolutely zero clue. :lau  not that it matters at all but it’s annoying me that I can’t remember hahaha but then again i spent way too much time in here so it probably just all kind of blends together.

There’s only 4 kinds!? Idk why but for some reason I thought there were way more haha that makes sense though cause I’ve only ever heard of those 4 haha Florida has all 4 too, right? Or maybe no rattlers?

Oh wow that must be dangerous having them in the forests and stuff cause how do you take dogs hiking!? Or swimming! With the water snakes! And the blue green algae everywhere this year! How do you guys do anything down there!? :lau  also the heat. I would just collapse or stay indoors lol

And since the corals are shy do they not normally attack people?

I want to know what kind too. Probably a rattler?

Huh, interesting. How do you know that!? You know everything! Also.... it looks absolutely terrifying!! Is it safe?

Okay this one is even bigger and sounds gross!!! Eek!!! Are they dangerous!?

I get grossed out just touching webs. There’s tons of webs all around the chicken coop haha

Well there’s several subspecies of rattlesnakes and a couple of coral snakes, but those are the “big 4” species.
Most snakes won’t go out of their way to attack people, although some are more aggressive than others. But yes, coral snakes are particularly shy and many people around here have never seen one or don’t know what they are. They actually have the second strongest venom of any snake (first is the black mamba), but they are not pit vipers (unlike most venomous snakes) so they have very small fangs and a poor venom delivery method. This, combined with how shy they are, makes them virtually harmless, unless you’re going out of your way to manhandle wildlife.
Banana spiders are as safe as coral snakes are.. as long as you leave em alone. :p
I don’t know everything, I just like to learn and I love snakes lol.

I can’t do anything with the dogs right now in the heat. Even if they wanted to go out (they don’t), the concrete is too hot on their paws. Summer is much more restrictive than winter is for us.

This looks like what we had in the coop here.

If you've ever been ATV or top down jeep riding through the woods at night (you have to be standing up in the back to achieve the full affect with the jeep) and been smacked in the face with a huge spider web, then you know that's next level creepy! Been there and done that. Laughed it off and kept going. Makes me gag when I think about it now.

:sick I hate it so much lol. I used to take late night walks in the woods without any lights.. until the first time I got a spider down my shirt. UGH.
Nowadays I just make my (big) little brother or husband walk in front of me. Problem solved. :D
