➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Okay thank you! Clucking can be nice, but her constant clucking is getting a little old!
A broody hen has an elevated temperature...often not more than a degree. I hang a cage in the coop with both food and water, with no bedding. the circulating air cools the hen's belly so that her temperature returns to normal. two or three days is sufficient.

And another thing, why is the hind teat the best? Taste? I argue against location.
:old You may have to massage the teats to express the milk. Rub it on the teat and put a puppy there. Each teat has a waxy plug that needs to soften for the milk to come down. The sooner they are nursing each teat, the less likely the momma will get milk fever. She has 6 - 8 that are full and ready. Some dogs don't fill the last two until the need for increased supply occurs as the puppies age.

Duck eggs part 1 - bator overheated.
Chicken eggs - DOA? Really didn't see potential.
Duck eggs part 2 - had veins at store. Never moved. Declared deceased at bator day 1.

Stay tuned for the egg-citing part 3! Will Kiki limit herself to one dozen? Will her flashlight batteries hold out long enough to candle 20 dozen eggs to select the top 12 contenders? Will THE MAN reveal his true intentions? Has Kiki figured out the live recording feature? Will the police seize BYC for evidence?

Same Bat time! Same Bat station! See you next Thursday, sometime between 8 and 1.

It took all night!!! :barnie

4 wiggling, squirming, little balls of warm snuggleness. Full of puppy breath. And they squeak when you sit on them!

Awe! She was soooo large, are you sure there aren't more puppies coming? The photos are tugging on my heartstrings, but I really can't. Miss Sunshine turns a whopping 13 years old next month and it would not be fair; no way could she stand up to a wild puppy right now. So cute though. I hope mama dog is doing well!

So I could use some advice here..... have Sebright bantam hen who seems to be broody.. she sits on other hens eggs for hours at a time but won't lay her own, and is actually plucking her own breast feathers... now the problem is I don't have a rooster so she has no chicks to hatch in those eggs, and I can't give her fertilized eggs because I can't have anymore chickens.. so I'm at a loss as to what I should do. Any advice is much appreciated!!
Your hen is all nice and warm, ready to hatch babies. To break the broody cycle you need to cool her off. I've seen people give them a cool bath, or put porcelain eggs in the fridge to get cold, then slip those under as you remove the real ones. I've also seen them put them in a rabbit hutch with only a wire floor so they have no warm spot to lay on.

@RUNuts How many roosters vs hens?

3 cockerels and 1 pullet, but I'm waiting for their adult feathering to come in and see how the combs develop. Sometimes chicks will fool you.

And counting. Taking bets now.
