A found a few prints in the mud. Looked like large dog but I am not certain. The animal was long gone by the time I got home.

Blossom is still hanging on. She has deep punctures on both sides of her body but the vet was optimistic about her chances. She is on antibiotics and pain killers. She mostly sleeps. We have her in a big crate inside. So far she hasn’t shown much interest in food or water. Anyone have any tips for convincing her to eat and drink?

That said, chickens can recover from some amazing things! So hopefully she does

Do you have any Nutridrench? Maybe you could put a few drops of that down her throat/on her beak??

Or maybe try some scrambled eggs or something yummy?

Get you some vitamin and electrolyte powder and some starter. Make a slurry about consistancy of a milk shake with the powder, starter and water in a food processor Sugar or molassis if you want. Put it in a bowl put the bowl on the edge of a counter or something and dip her beak in it. She should eat that. Sorry for your loss

Tubing saves lives if it comes down to it. It’s not very hard at all, but can be stressful if they fight you.
Don’t expect her to eat anytime soon though. Just make sure she’s drinking for now.

I am willing to do it if necessary.... I am just hoping it won’t be. She kinda hates me at the best of times and this is the worst of times. Even in her current condition she still fights being given her medications.

She did seem a tiny bit more alert today. She ate a bit of egg and crumbles and drank a bit. I also have been giving her a few cc s of water via syringe every time I give her one of her medicines. Hopefully she starts doing more on her own soon. I will try Sam’s slurry technique

That’s good news!! She could have still been in a bit of shock too maybe? Which could be part of why she wasn’t wanting to eat?

Aww poor thing and poor you!!

I am sure it is likely a combination of all three sadly!

Is she on pain meds? I think you said she was and antibiotics? So hopefully that will help soon.

And I would definitely keep coaxing her and hopefully she starts on her own soon.

I have been holding off posting in the hopes of better news, but I am losing hope by the day.

My flock is gone. Something (I can only assume dogs) tore open the run and damaged one of the coops on Saturday. 1 hen was dead when I found her, 1 hen was injured but alive. The other 7 (my rooster, the last hen, and all 5 pullets) are still missing. No other bodies have been found, but there are feathers from everyone strewn throughout the run. I am absolutely shattered.
