Are the bulldogs on a preventative?
Do they now have to be tested to see if they test positive too?
I don't know how heartworms work.
That’s true, they should probably be tested just in case. If one of them has it, they all could I would think.

Thanks. I know quite a few people from up north who don’t give preventative year round but down here it has to be. I volunteer at a rescue and almost every dog that comes throug is heartworm positive. He was not on a preventative, which is entirely our fault. We know his resting requirements.
The preventative can be taken 30 days after the original date and still be effective, so no need to worry about being a few days late.![]()

Good luck with your treatments, give him a hug and a kiss from me!

Yes all of our dogs have to be tested now, even with the bullies having had preventative before (missed three months due to the move and other craziness). If they come back positive then they all get treatment. That’s true, they should probably be tested just in case. If one of them has it, they all could I would think.
I should add, that it can take up to 6 months for the test to finally show up positive so even if a dog tests negative now, they still need to be monitored if around a heartworm positive dog.Yes all of our dogs have to be tested now, even with the bullies having had preventative before (missed three months due to the move and other craziness). It only takes one mosquito.Yeah, I feel like a lot of dogs down south end up with it, especially strays and such.
But even pets can get it and I once knew someone who’s dog still got it despite being on preventive! So even preventative is not a sure thing. But it definitely helps. This person was in Florida. They probably also require it year round down there.
But up here, it’s literally not even possible to get it in winter, the mosquitoes aren’t even alive. Everyone will try to get you to do it year round but there aren’t even mosquitoes in winter.
