:he Another day plan interrupted! I'm trying to can pickled okra and make some fall plum jelly. And the boys want to wean some calves! This will take two hours. Have to bring the herd up from the far back 40, sort out the cows and keep calves. Then move the cows back to the far back 40 and move the calves to the west 40 so they are across the fence from their moms.
The babies are going to cry tonight.

Good luck and have fun!

Do y'all use walkie talkies?

Also.... is 22 weeks late for a Leghorn or is that normal? I know the first batch of girls didn’t start until at least 22 weeks and they weren’t all laying until like 24 or 26 weeks so she’s about the same as the others but I just always thought Leghorns started much earlier like 16 or 18 being such good layers lol they turn 22 weeks old tomorrow. Not that I care much. Just wondering.

Lovely photos. When I have time, I like to put together jigsaw puzzles...usually nature scenes. Several of your water photos with the geese would make nice puzzles.

The mamas call the calves and the babies call their moms times 23. It is country music this time of year. We warned the neighbors.
No although we have them, we don't use the walkie talkies. For moving cows.
We use the feed truck in the lead and follow with the Ranger. Today we added the four wheeler to force drive cows because the first time moms were not wanting to leave their calves. The older cows stayed right behind the feed truck.
Then, We went out for lunch.
And I finished my pickled okra and made 10 cups of fall plum jelly.

Hubby brought me the plums from a tree on our land in Prague, Ok. The trees there had not made fruit for over 10 years. The weird weather we had this spring and summer allowed the trees to flower and set fruit. He didn't catch it until the tree had dropped most of the fruit. He brought me about a gallon of the 1 inch plums and I made one recipe.

Thank you!! I appreciate that. That’s so sweet. I wonder if there’s somewhere I could make some of the pictures into puzzles? I know my brother has made puzzles of the dogs for SIL so I’m sure there’s a way. Maybe I’ll have to look into that. There were some of some swans I took a couple years ago (can’t believe it’s been that long already) that I thought would make nice puzzles too or at least framed or something. I’ll have to try to find them.

I need to start doing puzzles and/or reading more haha

I like both but never do either

And do you think the older cows have just kind of learned the routine by now/are used to it? Know this happens every year/expect it??

And wow that is awesome!! Too bad you missed most of the fruit but seems like you still got a pretty good amount!
