Ditto. It's hard to find the time for the in-depth pieces—I can't do more than a few per year because of just how much time I take on them. Some of the horse pieces I've worked on have literally almost every hair drawn individually.

Watercolours are very difficult. I'm not a painter, as a whole. I can't ever get it as precise as I want it to be, even the acrylics. There's always a little slop.

I do! :love

Do you have a picture of one of the horse ones!? It sounds amazing! :love

And yeah, painting is very messy.

I ended up modifying the image I used as a reference a little, which had the side effect of skewing some of the shading, so I had to make up part of the forehead and ear base. Not super happy with how it ended up looking, but I don't have a reference for that part, so I don't stand much of a chance of fixing it. I should re-scan it—I think I ended up re-working the neck shading.

I have no qualms about charging what I think something's worth. Alas, people have issues with paying it. Can't even get five bucks for a laying hen around here. It's pitiful.

Your drawing is AMAZING! :bow

OMG thats so sad. Id hate if my market was like that. I can get 20$ for a point of lay mixed breed hen, 30 for a pure. 5$ per rooster and they buy every rooster i wanna get rid of. My prices are set at fair market value for the sellers to be happy and i make just a bit of profit. No one would buy my black cockrel though at 15$. I ate him. Theres a large spanish and vietnamese market at the swaps so i hope i can get them on the medicine chicken train and sell others as a delicacy.

Oh wow that sucks!! Here they usually go for quite a lot haha

Well, not a ton but people usually always ask between like 10-15 dollars. Sometimes 20 or 25 but that’s high and I don’t think they usually get that much. Occasionally you see them for free or like $5 but that’s not very common. Roosters, however, are almost always up for free and there’s always tons of them!

OMG you can get a lot for them!! I would have thought it would be cheaper down there. Here they usually only ask like $10-$15. At least on Craigslist. Idk what they ask at swaps and such since I don’t really go to those.

Thank you! I'd kill for that kind of a market. Part of the problem is that few people want to drive an hour and a half when they could simply get chicks in spring from the feed store. Buyers here, as a whole, don't care about owning fancy breeds... they just want layers. :hmm

Thank you. I have given up on selling adult birds and am thinking about trying quail or hatching eggs to see if there is a better market for them. I don't care about making money, I'd just like to subsidize the feed bill a bit.

That really sucks. :(

Makes sense though since you’re kind of in a country/rural/farm area right?

I think the quail or hatching eggs thing is a good idea!! I bet there might be more of a market because they’re rarer.

Or maybe you could sell veggies or drawings or adult quail or something?

Oh, definitely. Almost everyone has or had chickens at some point.
