I've never washed my eggs pre-incubation. If there is some visible crud on them, I'll wipe it off with a clean paper towel.
So do you think I should try to clean the eggs a little bit today before I put them in?
I wasn't even considering it.

@RUNuts my chickens were all hatched between Feb. 15 and March 15 last year, so just over a year old now. They started laying staggered between September and January. I think their eggs are all the same size as when they started. The ones that lay small eggs still lay small eggs. The one that lays a nice big egg has always laid a big egg. I too have heard their eggs get bigger as they mature, but have yet to witness this. To get big eggs you are just gonna have to get some ducks! They always lay big eggs. Maybe hatch some balut babies to add to your flock!
No.
It is all about knowing your limits. Here is one. Future, maybe. Today, no.
Good news! And yes, proud poppa here, daughter #1 graduating in May and has accepted internship with Texas Parks and Wildlife!
She will shortly be a biologist desiring to specialize in ecosystem restoration.

I had a rotten egg explode under a broody hen once. Lost several eggs at day 17 because of that. Miraculously 3 still hatched (disproving the "everything must be sterile at all times" advice). After that I tried to smell the eggs carefully when the broody was off the nest. The other chickens must have wondered what on earth I was doing!
I'm heading g to the store now.
