➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

While turkeys can easily fly over an 8' fence, they are more likely to pace back and forth beside it. As long as there are no enticing tree branches close to the fence it should keep them in.

What they sell as deer fencing here would not keep a dog out since they could easily rip right through it.
This keeps out a 150 lb mastiff. It's incredible stuff, I got it at Lowe's. I think the mastiff has jumped on it 3 times with zero damage to the fence. Only thing it hasn't kept out is copperheads! My DH almost got bit a few months back.

That’s awesome!! And wow that’s an awesome enclosure!! :love :bow
It's just deer fencing to keep out the neighbor's dogs, we would free range but I don't feel safe with a 150 lb mastiff and my chickens. We are increasing it next month! We are going to put a door where you see the dog standing. We are going to put the ducks on that side so they have their own area. The quail cages will go over there too.

We use dog kennel doors... I just walked out onto my deck so that I could take pictures of the whole thing instead of explaining it :gigI confuse myself so imagine other people who are reading this.

The dog kennel is where the chicks will be going hopefully this weekend! It's 30ft by 40ft...

We used our Yankee Ingenuity to design this whole area...

And that coop in the dog kennel looks pathetic compared to Fort Cluck! I want to stain the coop cherry or mahogany, I'll have to wait until it warms up a bit though. The ducks will have the same type of coop, but it will be half the height so 4.5 feet in the front.

Yeah but it still looks huge!! Bet mine would be jealous if they knew how much room yours have! Lol

And I don’t blame you!! LOL although mastiffs are usually pretty chill, no? Has he tried breaking in? Do they let their dogs roam? I hate when people do that. Annoying as heck for smaller dogs, downright dangerous for huge dogs like that!! Any way to talk to the neighbors and get them to contain their dogs?

And nice!! I think that’ll be a cool set up. I still gotta build mine. if any even hatch.

Currently though I’ve been spending all week working on the fish tanks. They’re gonna love it once it’s done lol although they seem happy for now and have been using the filters to hide behind but once I get the plants in them they’re gonna be really happy haha maybe get some shrimp or guppies or Cory cats too lol although I’ve read Cory cats need at least 15-20 so idk.

Anyway, back to chickens. That is awesome!

I need to expand my run but not quite sure how yet haha it’s a dog kennel so I’ll probably just buy more dog kennel panels if I can figure out how to get them home. But it’s on a bit of a slope so my dad doesn’t think it will work ha

For the littles I will probably just use cattle panels to make a hoop coop. Much faster and cheaper haha

And then we’re also thinking of fencing in the yard or at least part of it so that’ll be good. Should add some predator protection at least so I should be able to free range more haha

Oh and I’m glad you used pictures cause I’m much more of a visual person haha

Talk to the neighbors :gigI just choked on my water! We have kindly spoken to them for 4 years about various things. It went in one ear and out the other, but I love them for who they are (love thy neighbor... Even if they drive you bonkers). Their dogs are pretty much free range dogs, but they keep all the predators out of my yard so I don't mind. The Mastiff has tried to take down my fence but he wasn't successful! These past two years we have just found ways to work with their dogs and cats.

We will probably expand more as time goes on, but we are planning on getting land about 5+ acres but I want 11+ if possible.
