Can't wait to play with him in person. DD#2 was here last week. She is my chicken whisperer. Her goal was to make all of them into lap chickens. Needless to say, she did a good job and I had one on each knee yesterday. The things those girls will do for sunflower seeds! I don't want lap chickens and she knows it.

My goal was to provide her with chicks each time she comes to visit. Missed by a week. They will be back for Christmas break.

@Tesumph - you can come play with the lap chickens if it will help. :D Dad told me to take a test to figure it out. Take it again to pass. I got Cs in organic and decided that was good enough. Time to graduate and still had a 3.something GPA, rather lower than I wanted, but GRADUATION!
When I graduate I’ll only be halfway there.
I’m gonna need a lot of lap chickens. :/

As for puppies and rescues and stuff, I do like rescuing and have nothing against older dogs. I recently came very close to adopting an 18 month old foster my brother had but I decided now wasn’t really a good time for me to get a dog and I wasn’t really the best home for him anyway. Plus my parents would ruin his training. He wound up finding a great home with a nice young couple with two other dogs and honestly it was meant to be. Their dogs names are two names that are very important to our family and the first time he met them, he cried and cried after they left. We figure it’s a sign or something.

And I’ve known tons of great rescue dogs.

Our last cat was, an official rescue, and my childhood dog we got at 18 months old from a family who couldn’t him anymore. They had little kids and he was too much. Got him for free from a newspaper ad and he was the best dog. A yellow Lab.

I am sure I will rescue animals myself if/when I get my own place.

I will probably never purposely buy a cat when there’s soooo many in rescue and breed doesn’t really matter.

And I often look for the adolescent, uncontrollable dog that got dumped, or the young adult one, like 3-5.

People don’t like those either. Mostly the puppies.

But I don’t think I could take on a senior dog right now.

We just lost our last dog a year ago and he suffered with health problems, slowly declining, for a year and a half before we put him down.

So I don’t think I’m ready to deal with that again.

Not that all senior dogs will necessarily have health problems, I’m sure most don’t, but still.

Plus I’m too active with my dogs. Like doing tons of training with them and/or long walks and/or hiking and stuff. Though I wouldn’t mind adapting for a senior and shorter walks would be nice haha but still.

And I know everyone’s probably laughing at the active bit but..... when I am with a dog, I am. I’ll do anything to make a dog happy, tire it out, etc. so I do all those walks and stuff I normally don’t.

I have been looking at rescues but I don’t think I want to go through an official organization. Some of them are so expensive and so many hoops!!

So been looking at Craigslist too.

But I really honestly think for my first dog, I want to start with a purebred puppy from a reputable breeder. I know, I know. Gasp, shocking, cruel, whatever. But I’ve never had my own dog or puppy before and want a predictable one and to start right. Gator was a puppy, yes, but a family dog, not my own, and he came from a BYB/farm and was a mix. Good dog but we did a lot wrong and so did they. I want to start over.

But I do think after that I’d rescue.

Or maybe I’d rescue first then buy. Or skip buying if I meet the right dog. Idk.

All the ones I’ve ever known have been rescues or BYBs and they’re all amazing but still.

But this isn’t going to be for a long time that I can get a dog. I just mean eventually when I do.
