➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Yeah, I just found this article on it. A lot of them do Merle to Merle breedings to get them :(

Which, of course, Merle to Merle breedings usually come with serious health issues as I’m sure you know. :(

And seems they mix chihuahua or some other breed that carries merle then breed back

Yea that sums it up.
Don’t get me wrong, Merle is aesthetically my favorite coat colour on a dog. But there’s entire rescues out there devoted to deaf and blind Merle Aussies, Great Danes, collies, etc. already.. can we not do that to another breed?

I like my mixed dogs, but a Mastiff would be a dog I'd love or a Great Pyrenees.

Yeah, mutts are great too. Most of the ones I’ve known have been. Gator was one (Lab/Pyr) and Libby and Franklin are both mixes and their neighbors dog I watch is a mix too. Mixes are amazing. :love

But I would like a purebred from a reputable breeder eventually.

Never had one.

The only purebreds we had came from unknown sources.

Nice to have a known.

Though even that is no guarantee.

And I’ve gone back and forth on it a lot because our mixes or even the purebred from the newspaper ad (now it would probably be Craigslist) have been the best damn dogs. Bailey was incredible and he was free from the newspaper.

So then I think maybe I could rescue a purebred.

Idk.

Still a long way off.

But anyway, long story short, I think I would want a Golden, Lab, or an Aussie. But I have tons of other breeds I want to try too so :lau

Yeah, merle is definitely pretty, but my other thing is there’s already a shit ton of breeds that come in merle so why not get one of them? Or at least advertise the dog as what is, a mix. And then that way they could breed to solid color dogs too and not merle to merle.

I didn’t realize there were entire rescues devoted to those dogs though. :(

I mean, I knew there were a ton of dogs with those issues but didn’t realize there were whole rescues for it. :(

That said, the even sadder thing, at least according to the article, idk if it’s true, they kill the disabled or deformed puppies :( at least the puppy mills. They probably do that to all breeds though but still.

Triumph and Tesa are purebred. Registered show dog lines, the whole nine yards. Their parents were drop dead gorgeous.
Can’t say I care much when I’m dealing with arthritis, dysplasia, allergies, cancer scares, etc. one way or the other.

My brother owns a purebred shiba inu that is Satan incarnate. But that’s a can of worms I maybe shouldn’t open. :)
Turns out money really don’t buy happiness. hah.

Because cute puppies with a “rare coat colour” sell like hot cakes, and a BYB’s/puppy mill’s morals ends in their wallet.
Yes, disabled puppies get culled.
Cheaper than DNA testing.
