Have decided to move out the ducks! They will be hard to maintain during the remodel since they free range everywhere including the bar ditch in the front yard.
Found a butcher near us who processes ducks and chickens.
The Columbian Wyandotte chickens will go thru the final cull for breeders this week and then move the culls to freezer camp.
Still working on planting dormant plants (ferns, hibiscus, peony) and setting out the final order of bulbs.
Hubby has two more Doctor apps this week so will finally get to the task of boxing up all the kitchen and bathroom "stuff" for the remodel.
We will move into the rent house during the remodel...just next door...1/4 mile from home...so moving the living room and most of den furniture as well as our bed and dresser.
The remodel will be more extensive than just those two areas....kitchen and bath.
We will be:
- Ripping out the carpet in living room, hallway, kitchen, den and big bathroom.
- Sanding and refinishing the oak floors if there are no stains...we had carpet installed before we moved in so don't know what was under the carpet before.
- Removing the popcorn flocking on all ceilings...may do the bedrooms later since I will put locks on those rooms so we don't have to move out all the furniture in the house.
- Repairs to living room ceiling and one wall due to earthquake damage. Have a structural engineer checking for any foundation damage...we have a crawl space under the house.
- redo on the living room fireplace.
- Install tile floors in both baths, the laundry room, den, and part of the kitchen. Two/thirds of the kitchen is oak floor. (Due to a weird redo before we moved here)
- upgrade in electrical and lighting.
- Demo will be a full gut in the kitchen except for my dishwasher. Going with stainless steel appliances and a full stove. Building in a corner pantry...hate lazy Susans.
- Big bath will be close to that....Reusing some of the old tile which means I'll be cleaning off grout before reuse, but adding a full shower and a soaking tub, new vanity and linen storage...keeping the toilet where it is.
- 1/2 bath will get a new vanity and new wall covering...hate the Formica 1/2 wall.
- Back door entry will get a "mud room" redo with storage and a bench.
- Den will get some electrical upgrades, hubby wants to keep the wood paneling in there, so new flooring...wood like tile to blend.
This is going to take several months...we will do most of the demo ourselves and the painting but will hire out the refinishing carpentry, electrical, plumbing and installation of floors and cabinets.
