➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I don't know if you see but I already starting looking for other local stores that sell balut.
I think I am now willing to drive across town (just not in rush hour traffic times) to go pick up balut eggs from different stores.

Buy eggs from several stores after candling them.
Perhaps mark eggs from each store to see which have the best developing fertile eggs...another step in the experiment.

A little dark as the camera was still set on egg candling setting.....but....these hatched the past two days.

Remember that veterinarians are just people who have a lot of education on the subject of animal health. They are still subject to personal opinion, preference, and bias. Feeding is one of those areas where you'll get different opinions vet by vet. It doesn't mean one is right or wrong, just that there are risks/benefits and they weigh them differently.

Medications are sometimes in this category too which is why I asked about Safeguard. Unless there is a resistant strain, I'd expect my vet to start with the small guns and save the heavy artillery for extreme situations. For example, I had one vet suggest daily OTC, coated aspirin for hip dysplacia pain in a 13-year old Brittany. We moved and when I took her in for her visit with a new vet, they were upset by this treatment and said that this would wreck her kidneys. They wanted me to use an expensive prescription drug (one which has kidney damage as the primary side effect risk!) I actually switched vets over this because I didn't feel like the advice was based on medical evidence.

Arthritis/pain treatment for dogs and the mentality seems to vary quite a bit from vet to vet. What it comes down to is that most meds that are taken for any length of time (not just like a 10 day course of antibiotics, but the pain meds that are daily for weeks or years) can and will ultimately be bad for the kidneys and liver. It becomes a quality of life vs quantity of life issue. Once a dog is 13 they are OLD (my dog is 13 and arthritic as well). Taking meds every day for a year probably isn't going to negatively impact their life or shorten it by much because a dog that old doesn't have that many years left. Starting a dog on daily pain meds at the age of 5 is a totally different story and different approach because the dog may well live long enough to suffer kidney/liver damage. It's a balancing act an you have to find what works for you. For us, taking weight off the dog and finding the right amount of activity to keep her healthy but not overdo it so she was so stiff/sore she couldn't walk the next day were key. We've actually been able to scale back/cut out the pain meds the last year because we've found the magic balance of short easy walks and time outside without overdoing it. Good luck, and don't hesitate to question the vet ever or seek another opinion, weigh the options, and decide for yourself what's best.

Yes and yes. I upset a doctor because I didn't want to take the prescribed snake oil. If you are trying to kill me and I ask questions, then you get upset because you have a piece of paper hanging on the wall from 100 years ago? Good-bye!

Yep, I've fired several doctors. I've also put several of them in a bind. For example, the "you should have your wisdom teeth removed." statement. Ben fed to me by 5 different dentists. Why? they MAY hurt. IF they hurt, I'll be back. Now, 34 odd years later, they say keeping the teeth may be better for our health?!? Really. I'm not amused. I still have my teeth too. They are almost as old as I am.

Question everything.

Like the bacon and egg breakfast. The hen has an interest in you having a good breakfast. The pig is committed.

Agreed! Question everything and everyone! The wisdom teeth thing was one of my sticking points. I did ultimately have 2 of mine pulled years later as an adult, and it was not a pleasant experience, but as a teenager did NOT need all 4 removed just because it was the trendy thing to do. I'm not sure if it would have been better or worse to handle it at a younger age, but I'm not into surgery or any medical treatment without necessity. I also recently fired a doctor. It was stressful to have start fresh with someone new, but I'm so glad I did. Different doctors have different approaches not only to medicine and the physical ailments but to the way the handle and talk to patients. You must have someone you can have a conversation with and voice your concerns and who will listen to you and talk to you in a way that works for you.

No fad dieting here either.
Good foods...low to no processed foods and for sure NO Fast foods.

except for Starbutts? I'd like an enhanced sugar with sugar on top and underneath. Make it a tall, no grand, just give me the wheelbarrow.

Bacon - I'm trying the uncured cuts. Still sweet. Still good. Fried pig fat, Mmm-Mmm. Trying to limit myself, but BACON.:love

Girls are like bacon. They taste great, smell good and kill you slowly. :love
