➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Brand new freshly hatched chicks in a brooder at 80 and they were perfectly happy.
I have been wondering about this and was going to ask. With these temperatures, 75 at night and 95 during the day, do I really need heat for chicks? Could they just brood outside with no other source?

ETA: keeping in mind that the heat index is always 10+ above actual temperature

:gigHow did your chicks get out??

@kiki - let the door open

But seriously...they are 4 weeks old, into the terrible two stage, and into everything. Some predator took my beloved Rupert :hit and now my youngest cat is without her best friend (yes the roo was a partial house chicken). I have the chicks brooding in the room where he slept and my cat now wants to be buddies with the chicks and keeps managing to slide in between the baby gates. She's a very petite cat. She dislodged the one gate to the point the chicks got out, walked across the kitchen and into the family room where the computer is. They are very curious little buggers.

I am never ever going to eat balut again...
:hit
(except maybe if the store already cooked them... no.... i can't ...after seeing the videos of these perfectly precious survivors...)
:hit

Join the club.
It sounds disgusting huh.
:sick

I should have videoed Chef's reaction when I asked him about balut...that would have entertained everyone on here. Hmm....I could possibly do it again...but nothing could top the initial reaction.

Heck no...we don't need added heat.
I think it is ok for the first few days but after that outside with no heat is perfectly fine.
They do so much better in cooler temps.
