Oh, and the guy at the store said they get the eggs once a week. I bet he would tell you exactly what day they come in, so you would be more likely to get a fresh/live/viable egg.

Apparently duck eggs can withstand an interruption mid incubation and still hatch, remember Lucky's egg was abandoned in a cold rain for overnight before Steven rescued her to resume incubating?

Chicken eggs can be interrupted too and survive very well.
And not just at one point but at different stages of development. Eggs left twelve hours cold has had no repercussions on any of my eggs. I have a bantam hen who was left cold for 60 hours at approximately day 5 in the incubation. Embryos are incredibly resilient.

I have an incubator, her name is canna canna. she's had 14 chicks so far.
