Borzoi are not human aggressive. They have a strong prey drive and have been known to "catch" small dogs and cats. Well anything that is running, small and furry. Usually resulting in a fatality to the small things. Towards humans, they are aloof. If you pet them, they will ignore it. No jumpy, happy puppy stuff. They will lean on you. The borzoi lean. "You may pet me."

I've never heard of them. They look a bit like a hybrid afghan/greyhound mix.

A lot of people haven't. But everyone sees them on vodka commercials with the too skinny girls. (yes, I look at the dogs over the walking skeletons.)

We've been asked if they are goats, cats, afghans, salukis, pharaoh hounds, greyhounds, "some type of dog" and a whole host of borderline insulting suggestions. Too funny. It really is. Also had people pull over to confirm it is a real, life Borzoi and to pet them. Yep, dog person who was VERY excited.

Sight hounds the original launch and forget weapon.

Biggest problem, when they are in targeting mode, they really don't care where they are and get lost.

Irish Wolfhounds - the heartbreak dog. 7 year average lifespan. Friend's son has one that is staying at friend's place. Big, smelly, big, lovable klutz. We lost our first Borzoi, Jake, at 7. He helped raise the kids.

I have heard this too, but one of my friends has two that are 9 and 11... She told me she would turn me onto their breeder and her raw dogfood recipe when I get ready to get one.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Jake. They can become such an important part of the family and their time with us is never long enough. (except when you end up with a bad one! I had an evil biter fox terrier that stuck around for 17 years, he really wore out his welcome)

Yeah, one of my friends who worked at my vet's office informed me that they had a party with pizza and cupcakes to celebrate Scrappy's passing... I think he bit everyone in that office at least once. He wasn't much of a fan of rain either, Wich really was pretty inconvenient in Northern California.

Australian cattle dog. Blue heeler. World record holder at 25 years old.
And a puppy for life. If you'd like to commit yourself I recommend one.
