➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

You know about Pavlov's dogs? I don't chase chickens. I ring the big, loud bell and the chickens run from wherever they are (we have acreage and no fences) to their coop. They don't even have to see me and anybody (including a complete stranger minding them in my absence who knows nothing about chickens or a small child) can get them in.

Step one, install a bell on your coop. Hubby selected this adorable and still highly functional bell:

Step two, ring the bell and throw a bit of your preferred chicken treat in their run. Repeat a couple times per day for a week or so.
Step three, open the run door but before they go far, ring the bell and throw treats in run. Shut door once they all go in. Repeat as with step two but let the interval between release and return lengthen.

That's all there is to it. And if you brood subsequent chicks in or near the coop, you never have to do it again! The adults will train the youngsters for you.

That's a great idea! We started clapping slowly like herding two years ago, and somehow it stuck. Totally by accident! If I go out there, and just start slowly clapping or slapping my legs in big slow movements, they all just sorta wander back to the coop. It's cool.
