➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Several years ago a few voles tunneled their way into the guinea coop. I decided to wait until spring and the ground was thawed out before dealing with them. By the time I was ready to take care of them the guineas had caught and eaten everyone of them. I occasionally find a dead one in the guinea pen that has had its brain eaten but most of the time I don't see any. Once the guineas decided they were good to eat, they have really thinned out the vole population. They are ecstatic if they can find a mouse nest with the little pinkies there.

my barred rock hen ate a baby bird that fell out of its nest today... ate it whole like nuttin

Read about 50 pages to semi-catch up. There's no way I can do 712 :caf

I love our Australorps. Pretty birds, and they leave us eggs daily :) Got about 20 of theirs in the incubator right now, and had some hatch in the last batch our friend incubated for us. Also plan to buy 7-8 more hens in the next month or so. Glad we didn't sell the 2 we have a few months ago, before we decided to start building the farm up - since they're currently our only layers. [other than the bantams someone gave us for the fiance helping build coops recently and have also finally decided to start laying some].

My junior year of high school in New Jersey ended on June 22 (2004 lol). We always started right after Labor Day. My parents moved us to NC my senior year... it started on Aug 4 ... I was like where the heck did my summer go!?!? But I did get to graduated May 27, and the people I went to school with in NJ all my life had to wait until about 3 weeks later.

When I got my first German Shepherd in 2015, I picked the biggest male puppy in the litter. Mom was 90lb, dad was 120lb. My sweet handsome boy has seemingly topped out around 70lb (he's 3 years old now). The 2nd Shepherd I got about a year & a half later, a female, had the biggest feet as a 4 month old puppy, was growing like a weed. Has topped out around 68lb at 2 years old. :idunno

I love big dogs. I've had two rottweilers that were from rescue shelters that were the best dogs ever. So smart, calm and gentle. My last rescue dog for local animal control shelter is -- I think -- a shepard-lab mix. She's a smart dog, but is really excitable. She was 3 years old when we got her and the shelter thought she had been used as a puppy machine by unethical breeders. She was terrified of everything and huddled inside her crate for the first few months, before she blossomed into a wonderful, playful dog. This is her sacked out on a camping trip. Voles are somewhere between a mouse and a mole, live underground (and in the firewood pile) destroy the roots of plants in my garden.

New topic. Look at the cute ducklings and how they ha e grown!

I have now heard girl quacks from both of them, so I can breathe a sigh of relief.

We took a random trip to TSC and the manager was practically giving away all the plants. I bought trees and berry bush saplings and potatoes and more at the price of a penny each! I am planting all day tomorrow and it's supposed to be 70 and sunny!

A penny?! Wow! It's only Memorial Day. I'm surprised that the prices are marked down that much already.

Absolutely adorable ducklings.

I got a whole cart full of plants. I'm not sure if some will grow in my climate zone, but it's a gamble I can take at that price!

Love those ducklings! I'm glad they are girls.

The bane of my existence is something called "Botta's pocket gopher." They are tiny little things, but can wreck total havoc in the garden. Nothing seems to deter them.

I have seen pictures. I imagine them to be like my hated prairie dogs!!!
