I'm not big into cooking since I hate the grocery store. (Maybe that will change if a store near me starts up online ordering). For tonight I was content to have breakfast for dinner. French toast made with eggs from my chickens and our family's maple syrup.

Delicious round steak, dredged and pan fried in butter with just salt, garlic and a ton of black pepper, stew, roasts, and my personal favorite: an aged backstrap very rare :drool

X2 on the steak. Best in anything slow cooked for a long time bc it's tough.

Backstrap for me is off the chain deep fried. But I'm souther and we will deep fry anything. Lol.

I was one of those nerds at the library on the ground with piles of books. I was only allowed to take 12 or 15 with me so I speed read as many as I could while I was there. We spent hours at the tiny Key Center library every week. We didn't have a television so it was our entertainment allotment for the week.
It's good to freak kids out every now and then ;)

I was like this with books about any kind of animal. When all of the neighborhood kids would get together to play I'd pack up my bird books in a backpack and try my hardest to get them to birdwatch with me. I was and still am such a nerd. My poor daughter is exactly like me too. :lau

Have more people in my house working on this ****ing renovation.. at 9:30.. again...
I am convinced chronic lack of privacy could break anyone with enough time.
I can't do real stuff. I read to escape. Plus I get too invested as it is.
Exactly this.. I have to do enough “real” reading for college. When I’m on my own time I want to be mentally taken far far away.
Were you the one telling me about this??? I still need to read it. I get caught up with reading the Dune series every now and then and still love anything by Roald Dahl. Plus, gotta throw some Stephen King trash in there now and again as well. Especially in summer during a soak in the trough (yes, I am trash).
I might have? It’s been sitting unfinished for a while now.. been busy. I really love it though. Doesn’t pull punches.
I’ve caught myself making my “horrified” reading face more than once lol.
He is da BOMB!
I have two, I think, books saved to my computer.
I'll find them in a minute and send them to you of you want?
Send them to me? Like, to read? How?
We could ready books about murdering minks together ;) Good old fashioned bonding time!
... can I come too?
Turing to catch up but had to tell this story. My hubby can do the peacock scream/howl thing too. Like perfectly. He will straight up do it at a zoo trying to get the peacocks going. He's so embarrassing! :th
My mother feels the need to imitate the kookaburras to set them off every time we go to the zoo.
I just walk away. It’s horrifying.
He is pretty cute. I actually think the little Siamese colored ones are kind of pretty. The tails are pretty gross but I've honestly heard they make wonderful pets especially the boys.
That particular picture isn’t mine, just a cute rat I found online. The others are though!

Hm, just about anything, but I really enjoy non-fiction books that take a common topic and flip it on its head to look at it from a whole new angle. "Freakonomics" and its companions are some of my current favourites.
Freakonomics is great! Have you listened to "Hard Core History"? Podcast is most superb.

CONGO!!!!! One of my faves. Anything by Michael Crichton, loved Enders Game (should've just stopped at the one book though) and yes, gotta love those Harry Potter books. I loved the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy, but The Hobbit was better and had less annoying feast descriptions and elf-song :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by elves.

Daughter had a presentation on a ballad. She was trying to find one to report on. I suggested "Misty Mountain" and she flipped. This was right after the latest movie hit. So, when the teacher was looking for a volunteer to go first, she screeched and picked Misty Mountain. Seems she was a fan. DD got an A.

Animal books and no one has mentioned James Herriot and "All creatures great and small?" I am dismayed. Nay, I am distraught.

ETA - @PirateGirl for the win with James Herriot!!!! I'm so proud of you! Must read if you want to be a vet. Must read if you like animals. NVM it is a must read.
