He is either a calico or sweetgrass...

He is a Calico. The difference between a Calico and a Sweetgrass is that a Calico has a hidden Narragansett color gene and a not so hidden red color gene while a sweetgrass has neither of those genes. A Calico will not breed true because of the heterozygous red gene (Rr) but a Sweetgrass can be homozygous in all of its color genes and can breed true.
