➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I've got to go supply shopping. It was the plan for today but I haven't decided how committed I am yet.
I think my supplies shopping is already done.
I may need one to two more things but that is it.
:woot

I'm about to concede defeat and move to the North Pole. This summer is miserable and sticky.
And the garden is green but hardly any produce yet.

Wow! You are doing a great job! Why not let the ducks live in with the chickens?
Duck will lay eggs on the ground and hide them under your bedding in the coop. Ducks like to play in the water at night...spilling makes a mess.

Off topic but, does anyone have any experience using hay as deep litter?
I know it molds and I know it tends to become a matted poop carpet. But.. it’s already in the run, it is what it is and I’m wondering how to prevent problems early on. I don’t know where to get “aged wood chips” in bulk. Would a bit of leaves and pine needles mixed in help at all?
Already some good advice. You can purchase horse bedding(shavings) in bales at TS or Atwoods to use in the coop. Add that to your deep litter. Also add pelleted lime and innoculate with soil to improve composting action.

I'm so distracted. There was just a tiny little kitten under my carpet crying out and I tried to catch it but it ran off. Obviously feral by the way it reacted to me but it was so little I'm now on a mad witch hunt bc I know it won't survive long if it doesn't have a mom. I'm such a sucker!
Try a live trap with some canned tuna as bait.

I guess. I’m scared it’s going to turn into a moldy mess and I won’t have any place to fork it out to.
I keep trying to explain deep litter to the Ginger and why we need to add more materials to it, but he doesn’t get it, and he won’t help me if he doesn’t think it’s needed. :hmm
Composting process makes the hay turn quickly. In the low end of your run, you can make layers of the hay, pine needles, green grass clippings, some soil and twigs and dry leaves... turn frequently to add air. The pile will heat up and steam. Then turn it again. After several times turning it, scatter that compost over other areas and keep working in sections. You will get there.

WOOOOOTTT!
I am really excited to see your baby Street Foods!
They are so ugly when they first hatch...but then turn to cuteness overload as soon as they dry off.
My mail order webs should be here tomorrow or Friday! :D

I so need to go school clothes shopping this year.
I don't normally have to do this because I buy through out the year but I don't think I bought one article of clothing all summer.

I hate shopping with a purple passion. Once a year or year and a half I go into a store, try on everything I remotely like in my size and buy whatever fits. No sale shopping or any other type of torture. Usually it only happens when I have an event I have to go to or somesuch nonsense.

Penguins. Definitely penguins.

I'd say peafowl, but I can have those, I just don't.
I have so much to catch up on... But I just want to be able to keep a rooster, which I can't, so I picked peafowl, cause they are noisy and would irritate my neighbor who ratted me out because I had a rooster. Is that mean on my part? Her dog barks his head off. :idunno

Not at all. You should get peafowl, call ducks, and emus, then hide them when the cops come and say she's just gone nuts.

And all of it is useless trivia knowledge. Ask me something practical, like how to change the oil or build something, and I'm no more useful than a three dollar bill. Most of my knowledge comes from animal planet or Google.
I have a feeling we are a lot alike. I have LOADS of useless knowledge and unmarketable talents! Rocks, history, trends, lyrics, running in heels... i've got them down! Useful things...meh... not as much.
