The only reason...well not the only but I am keeping added heat because it will be much hotter outside than it is in my house and I think it will be less of a shock for them when I so put them out.

I actually have the reptile thermostat set to 30c. I am pretty sure the dumb thing is off.

It is about 84f under the light.

@Tesumph i can see why you are worried but hopefully,probably, maybe it's just a weird stage. The EE coloring looks like a lot like partridge female, to me, except the red on the wings which is pretty suspicious but time will tell. Try to enjoy them no matter what; I can't wait to see how they turn out. I read the reply that warm weather makes combs develop faster, which I did not know, so now I'm crossing my fingers that my OE that I've had pegged as a roo this whole time may still be a pullet. He's been outside since day one.

They are super-cute. I agree that putting them on hardware cloth might be dangerous -- and maybe too chilly as well - although in Houston "chilly" is probably rare. Knowing you, you will MacGyver something awesome.
