➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

The OP clarified that the red tub stuff was some kind of barley/calf mixture intended as a treat.
:sick:sick:sick:sick:sick I haven't made it back over there YET.
That looked horrible, like mud.

8 eggs started. 1 was eaten on day 1.

7 eggs candled sometime between day 10 and 15. They will hatch this month. :old
1 real clear - pulled.
1 had a little blob - pulled. I'll open these this weekend.
1 with half a blob. Need to look at that one closer. We will call it runt. Guessing it also quit.
4 with huge, massive blobs. Looks like everything is fine and on track according to Pugsy's chart. I'm hoping for all girls. I know Kiki is gonna jinx me when 4 yellows pop out. Best outcome will be 4 Australorp girls.

How long do you stare at the blobs before they move? Couple of minutes and these didn't appear to budge.

Other hen got on roost. Glad we didn't get another broody.

Incubators:
I decided they couldn't be that simple. Well, they are. Cyprus' box. Kiki's frankenbator. Bada bing, bada boom. Done. Winter project to go along with quail run/habitat. I wanted this on north side of garage. Looks like it will need more sun. Really liking the cattle panel greenhouse and quail habitat idea and looks.

For home, how many quail do you normally need? Guess this will be limiting factor on bator size. Bring in new stock every 2 years. I'm getting a plan.

@KikisGirls - were you considering doing meat chickens this year?
@PirateGirl - requesting a sunflower update. How'd they do? the BOSS ones the chickens planted got 1 foot tall, flowered and are withering in the heat.
YEah on the blobs.
I usually see some type of movement fairly quickly.
I don't wear glasses and I keep really still and watch closely.

I am not going to do meat chickens anytime soon, I think.
I still have the option to raise them somewhere else, not my backyard but I am not ready for that.

I am sticking with meat quailies!
I am waiting to see how many males I have...they will be the first to be eaten then I will figure out a way to keep the bator going and the quailies in the freezer.

I am truly loving my new job, with that said, I miss sooooo much here. :hit
The Good news is it sounds like one of the people I used to work with ( I am back at the same unit in the same hospital) may really want one of my cockerels ( I still have 3 ) They bought 4 acres and a house and barn while I was at home and are looking into starting a mini farm. I have to take pictures so his wife can see which one she wants. And he has a bit of work to do to set up a coop and run. I am really excited about that. What has everyone else been up to @KikisGirls how are the quails?
@Cyprus How is your chick, is she getting better?
@RUNuts when is your hatch date?
What's everybody else doing? Anybody else hatching?
I have 1 broody and am thinking about a fall hatch, may be some lavender Marans. Gris Gris on Kiki, I want more pullets than cockerels this time. :lau:lau
Great news!
I hope she decides she needs to of your boys!
Quailies are good.
Growing like weeds.
They are still inside but will probably be going out this weekend.
They are so fun to just still and watch.
It's too hot outside to sit and watch them.

I don't do clutter. Anywhere. My closet, my dresser, my kitchen, my bathroom... nowhere. I hate it! I go through all my clothes every year - if I haven't worn it, goes to the Goodwill. I find as I get older that I don't really buy anything anymore. Most of my furniture was given to me and I don't have much of it.
Had a friend stay at my place while I was on vacation and she informed me that I have the least "woman friendly" bathroom she's ever been in and she went home every day to get ready for work! It's true though. I don't own a brush. I don't own a blow dryer. I don't have any spare makeup or any makeup at all. I don't even have face wash because I just use water... That's how much I hate having crap laying around!
:woot I love this.
I have been wanting to start cleaning out my stuff for a few years now and have finally started this summer...slowly getting rid of all the extras.

Thank you!
Tag me when you do :p

I just let the girls out into their run. They are loving the small amount of birdseed that I scattered for them.
Incy is holding steady at 98. I may try to turn it up.
I still have not cleared the feeding station that I used with the chick.
Is 98 good enough?

Oh I just realized that this would be a fantastic time to make a thread about the performance of my wooden incubator.
With various breeds and a few test runs already hopefully it will turn out well.
Just wondering if anyone would follow.
YEs.
