➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Kiki, I read through that other thread, it looks pretty interesting. I had previously read that there was some lethality with the Golden Manchurian color mutation, but haven't had any of those birds (I'm pretty sure) so I didn't worry too much about it. It's interesting to learn about the lethality with the white mutation too - I have only hatched 5 white (some with head spots) birds, and of those two had eye problems too. The eggs were purchased and not from my birds.
The first one (pure white) had eye problems and didn't live much past 2 weeks as it pretty much couldn't see at all. I am still not comfortable killing chicks if it seems like they are trying to live and don't seem to be in pain so I let it keep trying when I probably should have taken action. It was a runt but it seemed content with life. By the time it passed the others who hatched same day were twice its size. Second and third ones had spots on the heads, they seemed more skittish and neurotic than the other colors and luckily they turned out to be boys so they went to freezer camp. Four and five (both all white) were in the group that just matured within the past 2-3 weeks. One is normal and one has eye problems but not as severe as the first one. When it hatched the eyes were super big compared to its head and had a blue cast. As it aged the eyes became more normal in appearance but you can still tell there is something wrong with it. Physically she was runtier than the others but only delayed size-wise by about a week as they were growing out. Both turned out to be hens and are both laying, the one with the eye issues is still a bit daintier than the other. They will both go to freezer camp pretty soon.
I have pretty much decided that white quail are not allowed in my flock and will either sell or eat any white quail that I hatch. The *fun* thing is that I have a gold and white pied/tuxedo male paired with some italian females, so a lot of his chicks are hatching yellow. They seem to be feathering out as pale italians or gold and whites but as chicks they really look like they might be pure white and making me worry.

I'd rather go back to arguing over TV shows as a way of bonding.
Hey, yeah... you Dr Who watching weirdo!
Do you watch violent television shows? I find my dreams are pretty impacted by what I am consuming as a viewer... that and cheese. If I eat a lot of cheese, I have weird ass dreams.

I watch three TV shows, and that's it. I don't know I'd consider any of them particularly violent. One does have a few stabbings/shootings.
Confession: I'd never watched any TV shows at all until this spring, when I was coerced into watching some and got hooked on a few. I'm picky, though.

And finally some pictures of some of my quail. They were not thrilled with me taking pictures and were running all over the place. The red ones are kind of a chocolatey red, but I think the color might be affected by hormones and lighting, they seemed much more red when they were younger, they are several months old right now. The ones I have been calling red pharaohs are the result of breeding a male traditional pharaoh with a red female. I think they might be sex linked, or I just need to hatch more since all of the red pharaohs I have hatched so far are hens.
First two pics are same hen.

I had one when I was 6 that I still remember....
We were vacationing in Florida. While at the beach my mom says "ooo look at the tuna!", walks into the ocean, comes out carrying a tuna, climbs a tree and starts eating it. The police show up and arrest my dad for poaching tuna. I keep begging and pleading with the cops, telling them over and over that my mom was the one who did it.
Next scene, I'm at school. We're having an axe competition. There's these fairly tall tables on wheels with a high back, kinda like a workbench. There's crepe paper streamers draped from the back across the table. We're all taking turns chopping the crepe paper with axes. A line of blood forms where the axe has chopped. The school librarian says "let's try heads next"! Everyone is cheering, but I wail no. The librarian turns the table around. There are 3 heads mounted. One is my dad's.

What are your magic three? I mean, I know the one, but what about the other two?

I grew up without a television at all. I remember my dad plugged a VCR into our old dinosaur computer and we were allowed to watch one Disney movie or something every couple weeks.
When our house burned down and our new house was done, my parents ended up getting a television. We didn't have cable so it was pretty much for movies only other than FOX 13 which incidentally had The X-Files on all the time, and thus a fan was born.
My dad went crazy and put in surround sound (0-60, right?) and we watched movies at an incredibly high volume. It was amazing!!!
I love shows, but I can't do cable and commercials... just awful! I stick with Netflix these days. They've got lots of foreign, dark murder shows for me to enjoy.
