➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Ok, I have finally poured thru 500 posts...
Kikigirls not enough quail updates..

Cyprus, keep up the life support on the babe....I have been thru a lot of chicken issue's but never have had to tube feed. If she does not make it can you send her to a lab outside of your state that may be cheaper? All other sorts of shanagin's have happened whilst I caught up...but want you all to see Roo, best picture I have gotten of him, look at that stink eye, he is nearly 2 feet tall, but not aggressive in any way. And a picture of him compared to my Maggie a 40lb mut

If if folks are interested, he is half bared rock and half buff brahama

Beautiful roo!

Save your pennies and by the time you get the money, you might be ready for the dog. I can't joke too much about stubbornness, pugs are not known for their trainability after all!

That's a very good point. I've been trying to save my money from walking but I've been somewhat bad about spending again lately :/

I don’t blame you. I find it kind of ridiculous that they are having you hatch them and yet they knowing sold you older eggs and are expecting half back. Did you pay for all of the eggs? If you did then I don’t think you have to give any back as they’re technically your property then.

Agreed

Maybe with a purpose they won't be so bad. And I don't mean "tests" tests I mean ways to handle the pups and feel them out. Be sure they are confident. Ex : roll over on its back in my hands and be sure that it didn't freak out. If they stay calm it's a sign of a more trusting and confident dog which would be a good quality. That sort of thing.

One can only hope. And sorry, didn't mean to be such a know it all lol but I don't really get it, people say they're so stubborn but yet they are getting to really high levels of competition. They are also supposedly really interested in and in tune with their people. Whereas a Border Collie does everything you ask without question but some say they're not as interested in you, more the task. So I'm really torn lol supposedly they don't have off switches but I really thonk that's the show collies and supposedly if you find the right working like one, they should have an off switch. But even then, some constantly need to be busy, others were make good active pets, so it's all about meeting the parents. And working line pups are usually cheaper. This is the BC. I think the right one could really be a great fit. But they're also serious and really focused on the task while Aussies are kind of clowns and entertaining. Idk, I'm really torn between the two lol

Anyway, that makes sense and sounds similar to the temperament tests a lot of breeders do already and would likely share. And there are additional service dog temperament tests you can do. I don't plan on having a service dog and don't need one but if it passes that testing, it would likely be a great dog for anyone.

Is it nap time yet?

I am debating on trying to go back to sleep for a little bit.

Lol same since I don't have to work

I didn't pay for any of them. But my brother REALLY wants the mottled japs and only a few eggs made it. If all that hatches are mottled japs I will not be returning them.
And 4 of the surviving eggs are D'Uccles which I wanted in the first place. It was the whole reason I got his contact. Which means that neither me nor my brother can keep what we both want because of his 50/50 deal.

Can't you just keep two mottled japs and 2 d'uccle? Or one and three? Or buy more japs for him?

I actually haven't gone to bed yet!

Haven't gone to bed yet!?!?!?

Well the sun's up so it's time for me to go to sleep.

Those rescue fees are not unreasonable if they are doing it right. The rescues I’ve worked with spend way more than that on average to secure the animal and get it the proper care they typically need and house them until a forever home can be found.

Yeah, it definitely costs a lot more than they charge but they're also mutts with unknown history and you can get purebreds for that price or a little more. Also I mostly just meant that it is expensive compared to other areas. A lot of places the fee is like $100 or $200 or sometimes even less than $100. Of course, they would probably be losing money but I just don't get how they charge so much. They also ship dogs up from the South and some places even make you pay extra for that shipping. Others, it is reflected in the adoption fee. I know that she shipping is expensive and fixing so they can travel on it BUT a lot of the places don't even have a shelter up here and just foster them down South and ship them up when they are adopted. And I am sure shots and vet care is a lot cheaper there than here. Others do ship them up and have them stay here but still. Idk, the whole thing just seems a little weird to me.

Some of the shelters are so full here in CA that they are having adoption events and waiving the fees just to clear out the shelters. We had a local cat rescue asking for volunteers to drive cats to Oregon, where they were going to be put on a flight to Seattle.

They just recently had a nationwide clear the shelters event.

A lot of animals in CA get killed right? So sad :(

Here they ship animals from the South.

I feel like, as the only teenager here, I am the only one who understands the appeal.

The appeal is the great fun in watching it dissolve then being left with brightly colored and sparkly bathwater. The bathbombs also help smooth and moisturize your skin.

Huh, interesting. Don't they have fun shapes? And those place in water and watch them grow dino things and eggs lol they have hatchable eggs

Glitter gets everywhere! Heard tale of a kindergarten teacher moving to older grades just to escape the glitter. Intentionally rolling in it??? Not I.

During the years of the small people, Crazy Lady would get glitter caught in her hair, face and clothes. I'd tell her she was sparkling. :love

Then the guys at work would ask me why I was wearing glitter...:he

Pixie dust. What are your happy thoughts?

I think of shelters as county or city shelters where animals are too often euthanized for health issues perceived behavior issues or just plain over crowding. It is an unfortunate reality I do not have an answer to resolving other than doing what I can to encourage spay neuterand adoption vs purchase.

Rescues I tend to think of as groups that take in animals from various sources, get the animals the medical care they need, often much more than a shelter would or could do, spay or neuter the animal and find them a good home. Because they can control their intake more than a shelter they can often do more for the animals but these groups are typically funded by donations and are non profit. It is very easy to spend way more than the adoption fee before the animal is placed in a home.
