Umm...my quail live in my basement/garage, so they are on artificial light already. It's a pain because I have to manually turn it off and on each day. I didn't change their schedule last winter and they laid throughout the winter. They seemed to have a long molt in the spring/summer though, not sure if it was related. If you cycle your quail through fairly quickly though you probably won't have to deal with them molting.@Sara L @RosieR
Which one of you wants to add lights for your quail?
I forgot.
I'm wondering if my quail will lay through the silly winter we have or if I will need to add lights too.
My chickens first year they did lay through our silly winter so I'm guessing that once my quail start they will continue this year. I also don't plan on keeping them very long...once I figure out how I am going to continue to hatch and rotate them.
I want your dog!I would hug-him-&-kiss-him-&-squeeze-him-&-love-him. I would name him George.
He sure is a cuddler! I need to clone him!No. I already want to steal him. He is mine.
It was me that was talking about it. Mine stopped laying, and I’m trying to figure out why.@Sara L @RosieR

I use a hanging fluorescent light fixture for my plants through the winter. I do use daylight bulbs in the fixture. I plug it into a timer that is readily available at any hardware type store. You can set the timer to come on daily and turn off daily at set times.Umm...my quail live in my basement/garage, so they are on artificial light already. Hurry up and add a light so I can know if it works to get them back laying. It was me that was talking about it. Mine stopped laying, and I’m trying to figure out why.
I read they need 14 hours of light to lay consistently.
So handsome.I only have pictures of the boys right now, but the Brahma and other Langshan look to be girls.
