➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Confused. Nest boxes are a foot off the coop floor. Yet, after letting momma and chicks mingle in the run, momma & both 2 week old chicks are snuggled in the favored nest box. Tractor open & waiting, yet she pulled them into the coop.

Explain this to me.

Looks like we have a potential cockerel.

I no longer trust anyone when it comes to sexing. :caf
I do believe I was told that one or both of my barred rocks girls were boys.. check out that comb and head spot.

I had never heard the head spot shape sexing tool thing before. I'm curious about it but to me the ones you have I would call irregular so I would think boys (wasn't it boys that had irregular I don't know now if I'm remembering right)going by that rule alone. But they are girls so makes me question its accuracy.

Exactly. The left one’s head spot winged all the way out and down the side.. certainly not the small contained dot everyone said it should be. But sure enough, they’re both spunky little girls without a doubt.

I don’t think the head spot thing is accurate in the slightest when it comes to hatchery bred birds.

I'm starting to think there is truth to the early comb development associated with heat. My chick had a huge comb right out of the gate and I was sure she was a "he". The growth slowed though and the body caught up. Now I know I've got a pullet.

I don’t know whether to be proud of myself or disappointed. Went to Tractor Supply this afternoon and they had a bunch of naked neck chicks and I didn’t come home with any!

Be glad you didn't consult anyone on this thread first. You'd have been bringing home chicks for sure. My TSC has chicks and ducklings last time I went and the struggle was so real!

I forgot my phone in the truck, which I never do! Lol it wasn’t meant to be. Da bf would have killed me if I brought anything else home that needed a brooder before the new coop is built so they can be brooded outside. We had 2 rounds of babies in our house this year.

:lau Knowing you'll have to brood them inside most definitely makes you think twice. I hope I never have to go down that road again either!

It’s nice for the first couple days, but it gets old really quick! I think having the chickens inside was easier than the ducks though. The ducklings were soaking their bedding constantly! :sick

We have 6 lane roads here.
Maybe even 8 too.
yea I think there are 8 lane roads....not counting our freeways.
I try to stay off of them right now...too much construction...we might have 6 lanes on each side of the freeway.

Wow so many lanes!!

Our highways are usually 2 lanes each, sometimes 3 in higher traffic areas. The smaller roads are all one or two lanes lol

Lol. When you make a turn into a multi-laned road, you are meant to turn into the lane closest to you.

Ohhh lol I do do that but thought maybe something different was meant, idk, it was worded confusingly lol

Here there's usually only one turning lane anyway lol there are two sometimes though in a few spots
