➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

hello everyone :frow so good to be back. (not going to read 3000 pages) would love to know how and what everyone is doing. I have been busy with a new job and chickens as well as the rest of the normal family stuff. I had forgotten how much I missed all of you and the information and funny stories! I'll give you one of mine and wait to hear all of your's.
Last weekend DD's BF was at the house and it was night fall, we heard Chickens clucking loudly and flying all over when they should have been sleeping. The problem was a large possum in an unlocked cage . I ended up under the roosting area ( in the middle of the poop zone ) I had cornered my self with a live ( and angry ) possum, a 3 foot 2x4 and a 12 inch knife. Nothing gets to eat my chickens :smack It was not pretty, my right hand looks like I was in a fight with John L. Sullivan, but I won!!! :thBF kept yelling from the open window was I sure I didn't want help, but he had on new shoes and I didn't want him to ruin them, as I ended up covered in chicken poop, but my girls remain safe. :clap.
Waiting with baited breath to hear all of y'all's stories! :caf
Hey there! Welcome back to the land of the crazies. :yesss:
Sounds like you've been busy! Glad to hear your chickens are safe!

Well, Nutty and Kiki have quail babies from Kiki's shipped quail eggs. KDog wants more chickens and ducks, CrazyCrtter got a free laying duck that she has been integrating, Canadian Farmer got her house moved and an adorable dog named Puck by Kiki, Conan has goat babies on reserve, and Tes moved to College Station, and we have eggs incubating! I'm pretty sure I forgot plenty. :gig

Also apparently my dad does not want ducks. Which stinks because we have a near perfect set up for them. But he says he hates their eggs, they are too rich for him, too creamy, whatever, does not like them. Then I suggested we could just get 2 males for pets and not have the eggs (though I did suggest they are supposed to be really good for baking) and he confesses that he got attacked by ducks and therefore does not like them, does not want them, and does not think they are cute. :hit
I bet he would like a goose.
They are so sweet and nice and don't attack!

Yeah, they seem a lot more reputable and like actual researchers rather than just for money which I like but they are just so expensive. But I guess that is why. The equipment must be expensive and taking that much time and care and I think they developed a more accurate test which probably took years.

That one sounds like a good one too!! Maybe I will have to look into that one.

Huh, that sounds kinda scary ha and wow really!? Didn’t know that! I thought from what I read if there are no hens they can get along? I know a lot of people get ducks as pets and just get a pair and I thought a lot of them got 2 drakes but maybe they got 2 hens or a drake and a hen instead? But I thought they were supposed to get along better with no hens and growing up together. BUT. That said, I also read ducks aren’t really happy unless you get them some females so then I kind of felt bad about just keeping males. Maybe he got attacked by wild ducks or a goose or something?

Wow that’s awesome! Geese are supposed to be very good gardeners too but I am terrified of them lol
I was joking with my last post about geese.
They are crazy and will attack.
Well my goose is crazy and would love to attack me if I got out of the car.
I just do drive bys now and tell him hi while I am still in the car.

:eek: Oh my you are nuts!
This is hilarious...poor BF is probably terrified of you now.

I'm happy to hear the old/new job is working out well for you.

Well tomorrow is going to be the first day we let the chickens/ducks/goose free range since my school/work schedule for this semester is going to restrict their range times to an hour at most. We set up some "hide away" stations which are just tarps that they can hide under if a hawk comes in. I don't want to lose my little lightbulb aka goose to a hawk. :hit I need more tarps.

EDIT: I just realized that this week we have to make sure all of the hens lay and nothing happens to any of them since we have a 4 dozen hatching egg order. So next week will be the first time! Maybe I can make more hide away stations then.

Yeah, when I was younger a goose chased me up on top a picnic table, it took a while to get over my fear. I was taller and had to realize I could do more harm to him than he could do to me. :gig:gig

ETA: Any goose that bites inner thighs is a perv anyway, hope he tasted good.

@Pugsabi quit her job.
Conan got a puppy from Texas drove to her by a crazy trucker lady.
@R2elk posted many beautiful photos you missed. I think he might be a real professional photographer.
@BantyChooks ordered some quail eggs and they should be arriving later this week. She is so excited to finally fire up her bator again.
@dpenning Hatched some duckies and they love her.
