I usually start looking up houses for sale in Missouri (or somewhere else south) right around the middle of January. Then summer rolls around and I am quite grateful for not being anywhere near the equator. I do not envy the temperatures that you all get.

I would venture a guess that it would actually keep it colder by retaining the nighttime air and reflecting the sunlight off of it.

Need something dark that will attract and hold heat. Black tape or something? I'm not sure how hot tape can get. Is there any kind of adhesive dark rubber type material that can go on the outside. I'm just thinking off the top of my head. Some times you just have to brainstorm. I'm sure you will come up with something. And when you do, you'll be like, "Omgosh! Why didn't I think of this sooner?!?" Isn't that how it always seems to go? LOL!

Although it usually does get to 80s and 90s in the summer and this summer is actually really cool, been mostly 80s and barely above 90s, and really wet but still
